The Doll That Scared Children

I generally try to post just once a day, but I couldn't resist sharing this one . I have always loved dolls . My favorite had to be the one I named... "Lady" I could never understand why dad took an instant dislike to her lol. If it looked anything like the one I'm about to share with you, I can understand his logic. This particular doll showed up in the 5th book in the series that I'm reading. I won't gush this time because I have done so often in my previous posts but I certainly will share what I learned. Apparently it is real!! Thomas Edison created this particular talking doll somewhere in 1890s and because it scared little kids, was pulled from the market after 6 months. So, of course Karen White had to feature the doll in her novel... and I can see how it would freak out the characters in the book. Technology has obviously come a long way and reproducing the sound has finally gave us this post... Here's what they sounded like... They really are quite creepy!!

Too creepy. Advanced for its time, but creepy nonetheless.

I have seen that doll when I visited the Edison home in Florida, I did not find that it was so scary.

I would love to see the doll... at least I think so lol. I know of another haunted doll in Florida but I was never in the vicinity to visit the museum. Now, not sure when we will have the chance to go back. :(

For some reason, I can't see it , but I have seen scary dolls. My friend has a doll collection but the dolls are a bit strange.

When I was little (and sometimes now), I was afraid of talking toys. I think if I was still a kid, I would have been scared of this doll.

This takes talking toys to a whole new level. That voice makes my skin crawl.

You have to wonder who thought that this would be a good toy for children?? You would have thought that someone would pick up on how creepy it was.

Some toys can be really creepy. And not just dolls.

I'm not surprised that they were pulled off the shelves. I wonder if there are any other dolls (not baby dolls) that can speak. I will have to look the next time I go to the shops.
