Food shopping

Those of you who only spend about $150 on groceries a week, what do your meals look like? Also any ‘savings hacks’ when it comes to food shopping? Needing to cut back from $200 a week for me, my partner, and 2 kids * we also rarely buy things we don’t need. I take a list and we stick pretty well to that list. I just tend to make lots of meat based meals or ‘fancier’ meals

I spend that on a month's main shop for us. I don't know if food is more expensive where you are, though, and we do a couple of top-up shops in between. When I can, I try to find good deals on quality meat that I can freeze. I also keep stocked up with plenty of staple foods and tinned things - baked beans and tinned tomatoes are very versatile. Those things can be very cheap, and most are pretty much the same regardless of brand. That's another thing - there are certain more expensive items that we like, but we save on as much as we can by getting shop's own brand. When we've not had much, I can usually throw together a vegetable casserole with a tin of beans, a bit of gravy, and some frozen veg. While working at the office, I'd also prepare more so I could have leftovers for the next day's lunch. It's cheaper to make a little extra than to buy additional foods just to make lunches. If you're able to do so, it's worth checking when and where the reduced items are in the shops. If you're going to use it the same day, there are some good bargains to be had - they're usually things coming to the best before date.

I live with a disabled 13 year old son and 11 year old daughter. My diet is vegan, my daughter is vegetarian and my son is a meat eater. I buy food from supermarkets with savings like 1 pound instead of 1 pound 55 pence. I have noticed some cheaper food can be bought from BM Bargains. I eat vegetables, fruit, seeds and soya based products.

I live alone. But there are several things that I cut when I want to spend less. Fancy meats are expensive. So I use cheaper cuts and I cook them in my Dutch oven. I don´t spend money in Coca Cola or the like. And I have at least a day of the week that is legumes day (from scratch) and one day that is vegetable day (it can be a vegetable lasagna or a quiche). The are some inexpensive meals for a family with ground meat such as shepherd pie or meat balls in sauce with pasta.

I don't even need to spend a lot, just to buy rice and soy sauce that's enough for my food for days
