Most of my friends here know that my husband and I take photos at horse endurance rides. The season has finished for the year as it’s now too hot to be pleasant, or safe, when riding a long distance.
Points are given to the horses for each ride. One horse from Western Australia is now the first in Australia to reach a thousand points. Both he and his rider have now retired, as the horse is 20 years old.
Since 2004, the pair have done 12,379 kms in rides, and countless more in training no doubt. They have completed 123 rides and placed in 90% of them. The horse, Homer, has also won 73 best conditioned awards, which is a great credit to his rider, who would be in her late 60s. An award will be made to her at the annual dinner to be held shortly.
In addition, Vin and I decided it would be nice to have a book made with a collection of our photos of Frances and her horse over the last three or four years. It will be given to her at the dinner although we won’t be there.

@JudyEv I agree with you since staying in a sport for 20 years is impressive.

Is it like horses also have age limit to be in Races ? or if their rider retires they have to retire too ?

@JudyEv So basically it's rider's decision on retirement correct ?

That sounds like a great idea. I'm glad horse and rider will be taking a permanent break.
