More COVID changes in Minnesota..

Our governor here in Minnesota just gave us some news: we are to be restricted again for ONE MONTH: he is making it so bars and restaurants can only do take-out orders, closing gyms, stopping youth sports for now. He hasn't even had the press conference yet but he is going to in an hour - but this info got leaked somewhere. Starting Friday (yes, two days from now), bars and restaurants will no longer have "dine in" and gyms will be temporarily closed.
COVID numbers are really UP in the midwest, Minnesota - we were holding our own but it seems like people have gotten tired of quarantining. I know I did.
I am really bummed about the gym. I just started going back, especially to work on upper body strength training (which I desperately need), but I am also bummed for the people who are suddenly going to be OUT OF A JOB in *two* days. How do you plan for that?! I know that they're probably offering unemployment, but you know that's never a QUICK solution.
But maybe this is a necessary step and maybe this will cleanse us from COVID. Who the heck knows.
Where are you at, and what kind of restrictions do you have in place for COVID?

@CarolDM Oh really? Wow! I heard either North Dakota or South Dakota also has no mask mandate. Minnesota does, indoor places only (or where not possible to socially distance). I've heard in some parts of California - mask 100% of the time (even if walking outdoors), not sure if that's entirely true but that's what I have heard.
I wonder why no mask mandate? It's interesting to see how very different things are from state to state.

I am in Kansas. Not sure of general restrictions. I am on my way to do a post related to covid here so I do not want my response to be a spoiler.

Not sure where we're at right now but not closed down again, yet.

As I said earlier hope the people will follow the governor's order in toto, without reservation for it's for the people welfare.

I didn't see what you said earlier, but probably expect to repeat it with all of us writing our own COVID discussions. I can't say I will blindly agree with EVERYTHING - some "COVID-friendly" decisions make no sense to me. Others, are pretty obvious. I think they are winging it. But I support clamping down on limiting social visits, etc.

@maezee Whether you have read or not, the government is dealing with the control of Covid transmission is serious. It's no joke. Everyone should follow it.
Do I need to repeat what I have said before?

The cases here are on the low side, there are supposedly more restrictions, but other than people being vigilant at Walmart about only using one entrance and exit, I haven't seen any other changes.

Our nanny, ahem, governor closed restaurants for dine-in, the week before Thanksgiving. Most of our fast food places never reopened (they’ve been drive-thru only since this started), but sit-down places that rely on this time of year for parties and whatnot are going to suffer. And they’re “hoping” for another bailout...while people in our state haven’t even received unemployment from EIGHT MONTHS AGO!!!!!!

Oh my god.... I just saw someone else's post from Kentucky about this as well (or was it yours? I Don't know, my head hurts). I feel so so bad for people who will be suffering financially. It is NEVER a quick process. And to have only 2 days notice that you will basically be unemployed? Seems unacceptable.
I know our numbers have gone up dramatically in Minnesota but it feels like there has to be a better way.

@maezee — probably my reply to Lori’s discussion. She and I have the same headache for a governor.

We are all fed up with all the restrictions. And lots of businesses are going down the pan. If only our governments had brought in these restrictions right at the very start, the virus would have been eliminated within the first month. Then we could all have gone back to normal.

This whole shut down thing is absolutely ridiculous and only getting worse. I have said it time and time again, if you can get this at Walmart you can get it at Tom's Diner, and anywhere else for that matter. Pumping gas even. This is hurting the small business operators tremendously and it needs to stop. It is very frustrating.

@Susan2015 I have thought this as well, that one is probably more likely to get it at Walmart than at Tom's Diner. At the end of the day I applaud any small business who defies the shut down orders and encourage them to do so. For one thing, the government has no right to essentially put these people out of business, and I would go as far as to say, aside from the claim of "emergency," that it is also unconstitutional. It is a very sad thing to force these small businesses to struggle while larger corporations have the resources to weather through this.
