Today our school board decided our schools will take an extra long Thanksgiving Vacation. It will start November 23 and will go until December 3.
We have a lot of cases in our county.
My bus kids go to a different school in a different district. We shall see if they do that as well. If not, well, I will ride the bus with them.

I have heard teachers say that going virtual completely would make things much less complicated and tense.

@GardenGerty That is why our district never opened . . . we see the pattern around the world - and we didn't want to open-close-open-close. There was talk about opening in January, but now I don't think so. The teachers are saying why don't we just make it virtual for the rest of the school year and leave it at that - and put more planning into the next school year - whichever way it will go.

i kinda wish they'd jest shut'er down now 'n go virtual 'cross the districts. i do comprehend that some young'uns need the 'structure' 'f schoolin', not doin' well without such. more 'bout bein' with their peers than the schoolin' part perhaps?

More about having routines (structure) and expectations and good meals, too. Of course we provided meals for a large part of the shutdown the last time and those kids who are on virtual learning can have free breakfast and lunch if someone picks them up. Even peer interaction is severely limited.

@GardenGerty 'tis a shame many'f not such 't home, eh? i'm glad y'all still served meals 'n hopes their families did 'ndeed pick'em 'p. that'd be the problems here, the schools 'n others tryin' to 'nsure these young'uns 're fed proper. 'tis very diff'cult to learn/study when yer belly button 'tis touchin' yer backbone. bless 'em all.

That's not really that much time off. Our areas, and I feel I've said this before but I don't know to who, have already closed and expect to remain closed until Jan first.

I will not be surprised if this gets extended. It is twelve days off right now. We will see who is sick later, and who avoids travel and gathering in groups. Those things affect how much illness we have. Current outbreak in our district I believe is fueled by a wrestling tournament exposure and contagion. Maybe other sports activities as well.

@GardenGerty sitting activities certainly doesn't help. I wonder how many school agreed kids go visit their friends when the parents are working and spread it that way.

Washing hands, wearing masks, keeping distant.

@GardenGerty can you keep the distance on the busses?

Going virtual does not help unless families stay home while we are on shut down. If people were limiting outside contact outside of school (sports, dance class, vacations) we would not be needing to do this.

Here in Kansas it varies. The more urban districts are either remote or hybrid, rural counties did not have so many cases, of course now that we are back in school we are having more. My daughter lives near you, but she has been homeschooling for eight years.

I think the schools themselves are safe, the problem comes from what families do outside of school hours as that is when people get exposed and bring the infection to us.

I think this is the beginning of our second lock down. I will be surprised if we go back before the end of the year.

Each day is a new day. Our district monitors the statistics in the county to help determine what we will do.

For many people with my job though it is a big blow to the income. We do have paid leave if we want to use it up, though.

I seem to be doing just fine. Really I believe that I may have had it last winter, before we knew it was here. Kids just do not understand the entire social distancing thing.

Hmm that's definitely different. But I guess this year is different overall.

I have heard of lots of different approaches. It is just how this year is going to be.
