'What animals can you find in shelters?'

In my neighborhood, I can see so many stray cats. I felt unfair to them because the local authorities are only concern more with stray dogs being in animal shelters. If I am a vet, I will spay these female cats. So that they will not generate their own kinds in the neighborhood. I have the weirdest thinking right now. What if I catch them all, then I will sell them for cat lovers. What do you think, guys? Do you have cat shelters at your place? Image Credit: alleycat.org

Indeed. I think the government needs to give an option to capture stray cats, too.

@rakski They do are useful when catching rodents. For me, it is better that they can have their own masters.

@Shavkat according to the homeowners here, they tried telling that to the dog pound who roam around here but they said that cats are helpful in killing the rats in a place so they do not really get cats

I envy that idea of animal shelters. I hope that it will be adapted here, too.

Cats and dogs in same shelter here all get put down after 30 days if no one adopts them. I wonder how they do cats, I know dogs do not last long if they stray. They get quicker every time a couple of hours, is the most a a stray dog lasts on street here before they get picked up. Cats, not sure because they people's pets, but maybe people call them in.

@Shavkat In other countries they still eat cat´s meat. Some say it is better than rabbit´s

I hope that the locals can just invite to their homes and treat them as their own. I do agree that stray dogs cannot last lurking around the streets. Most people prefer to adopt dogs than cats. In the past, some locals love eating dog meat. When the animals' rights were introduced here, no one can do this anymore. As far as I know, South Korea still eating this kind of meat. It cannot be denied since it is a fact.

Our animal shelters keep any kind of animal, cats, dogs, goats, rabbits, hamsters.... This is what our shelters do here, they neuter the male cats and spay the female cats before giving them for adoption.

I heard some organizations cater to stray cats here and even in other places. However, they are not that active even before the pandemic. I hope I can able to talk to these people who are in charge and suggest to spay or neuter the whiskers before the adoption of the new owners.

@LadyDuck That's nice. The owners will be obliged to do this. What if they did not do their responsibilities with their kittens?

@Shavkat They do all the time here. Those are too wild to be adopted, are spayed/neutered and released when they are fine. We do not have stray cats here, because cats cannot have kittens. Owners who wants to have kittens must apply and sign a form where they declare that they will take care of the kittens and not let them out of the house.

In my city, we do have a shelter for stray dogs. However, they are not that active. Sometimes they post through social media that they can be adopted.

There are also plenty of stray cats here and we can only afford to feed few. I hope the village Chairman would invite Veterinarian from the local's Vet's office so that they can conduct vaccination and spaying.

I agree that Barangay Captains can have this option. A vet can make a big difference in their communities.

@ZedSmart That's great. The only thing that barangays did here is to give free vaccines to these animals.

No animals shelter around here. The closest one will be in city. Some people here are pretty...not really thinking with their brain. They would dump the animals wherever when they don't want them. It's a pretty sad thing.

Some people usually left their pets on the streets. They are so irresponsible with this idea. I had seen the animal shelter here but dogs are only there.

@Shavkat It also depends if people are interested in getting a pet from a shelter. And if the feral cats are dangerous or not.

@marguicha I agree. Dogs from the shelter here, the people-in-charge need some requirements before they can have them.

On paper, yes... reality not so much. Quite often, there's more animals than there is space. But, those who manage to land in a shelter are well cared for and the place is kept clean. @Shavkat

We have a shelter that takes in cats, dogs and many other small pets. Then the next town over has one that handles livestock. They mostly get those when someone is in trouble for abusing the animals.

It is a good thing that my country is practicing animals' rights, unlike before. I hope these shelters that we have here can consider this matter.

Honestly, I don't have any ideas on how much is neuter or spay. But then, the owners need to be responsible and anticipate this kind of procedure for their whiskers.

@Shavkat That's true of course. Occasionally here, vets will have a day when they will do the operation very cheaply.
