Fireplace Makes a Great Atmosphere

This time of the year, the gas fireplace really feels good. It also has a fan and keeps the room warm. With the ceiling fan on, it circulates the heat to other rooms as well. Growing up we chopped our own wood for our fireplace. It was a job to keep up with and not much heat from a fireplace. My grandparents had wood burning stoves and that would keep your house warm. Always like seeing these flames, I get lost in my thoughts watching them.

I love fireplaces I reallly lament this house doesn't have one. I have to resort to watching the Yule Log on TV.

This one is a gas insert. Nice with a remote and cabinet. looks like part of the bookcases around it.

I love a fireplace also. We had a natural wood burning stove insert in our fireplace at 1 home that we lived in. It was nice while we had a free supply of wood. My hubby would save the apple and pear to burn at Christmas time, it gave such a beautiful scent to the house. The downside to a natural wood burning fireplace was the time, work and energy involved in cutting the wood, stacking it neatly, hauling it inside when you were low, and the mess of the ashes.

I am done with the wood and the mess. I miss my sister's home so much. She had a huge fireplace and we always gathered there for the holidays.

It depends where a fireplace is located. Ours is in the center of how the house was originally built. It keeps all of that warm.

I love our gas fireplace, it gives out all kinds of heat and I love watching the flames, also:) We had a potbelly stove in this home, our first winter we lived in one room. Mom even made oatmeal and coffee on top of it! In later years, Dad put a woodstove in their livingroom. He chopped wood that he found out of the woods(National Forest). Their home was too warm, at times

My grandmother cooked on hers too. Good memories. And yes, their homes would get either too cold or too hot.

@CarolDM Mom and Dad had a gas furnace that kicked on, if the home got too cold. She cooked beans on their wood stove, the smell was wonderful!

The fireplace reminded me of my home in Ireland. We had a fireplace in the living room in our rented house. We had to use turf to make the fire and to keep ourselves warm. It was a cozy atmosphere we had.

Yes Gas Fireplaces are good ones. Of course, the wooden ones would have meant more smoke! You must be enjoying the warmth and the X-Mas spirit!

Growing up we had a kitchen stove and a furnace that were working with wood, So, us the kids, did a lot of work for that wood and when we complained, my Mom would say to us" You will be happy in the winter to have a warm house and good food from the oven",

@CarolDM I wish we had a gas fireplace for the power outages. Can they be lit without electricity? Or do they need a kickstart from the electric power?

@CarolDM I like to watch the fire, it relaxes me but I don’t have a fireplace. The other day I was looking in the store, an imitation fireplace but it is a heater, but it's very nicely done, it looks like real fire.. and it is too expensive about 250e cost

There’s a video on You Tube that has a fireplace for ambiance and white noise. It is quite relaxing! Makes me want to grab a cup of hot chocolate!

I love to watch the flames in the fireplace. They seem to hypnotize you and take you off into dreams. When we lived in upstate New York we had a wood burning stove. It kept you toasty warm but you couldn't look into the flames and dream.
