Invaded yet again.

I let Kitty in at about 2 AM last night. I noticed that there was food in her (outside) bowl, so she must have caught a mouse or two. We woke up at about 9 AM, and I went outside to check her food and water. The food was gone and the water was dirty. Dirty water means the raccoons invaded us again last night. They have done so several times since I last wrote about them. They wash their hands after invading. The other night, there were five juvenile raccoons at my door. One tried to walk right past my foot and enter my apartment. I did not let him. How did natural selection allow such a bold species to survive? Raccoons seen virtually fearless. Do you have critters where you live that are incredibly "bold"?

They're adhering to covid rules: wearing masks and washing their hands,

Sounds like they're not keeping their distance though!

That's actually an excellent point! Do raccoons, and not kitties, rule the word?

I reckon they're smarter than your average rodent.

Those raccoons seem to like cat food. None here that I know of.

You don't have raccoons in your neck of the woods?

@TheHorse Used to before all the new homes were built. I am sure other neighbors down the road do.

No critters like that here - all we have is the neighbours' cats. I've never seen a raccoon.

Do you live near the forest where animals can easily visit you?

All of our critters are wild and do not try to enter the house.

@LindaOHio I bet they would. I had wood rats in my ceiling when I lived in Orinda. It was a pain in the neck. the landlord wouldn't do anything about it.

Here in California, wood rats, possums, mice, and other critters think they're welcome in our homes.

@TheHorse Not good. If raccoons get into your attic they will tear it up.

Poor 'possums. They're so dang ugly. That is a part if their defense against predators.

Now that is bold. Most species are rightfully terrified of humans. Ya gotta feel sorry for wild life though, so much of their habitat has been obliterated.

I know this might sound unfair but you're already in their world, all that wild habitat that once was where your home is @TheHorse That's why I don't do more than I have to on this half acre. I don't always like what Mother Nature gives me but at least I haven't used any herbicides or pesticides to kill anything.

I might start feeling kitty inside at night. But that would be just another step toward her ultimate goal of world domination (over my world).

Most of our bold critters are hibernating now. Raccoons are still adorable even though they are huge pests.

@TheHorse The raccoons are real pests. Can something be done about them? Sophie lives inside and she chases bugs and flies that come on our porch and inside our home.

@TheHorse Maybe she is very tired from chasing the real ones so she invents invisible ones. I really do see the real ones and if Sophie does too then she goes after them.
