Our solar panels are working well and providing us with free power

I wrote recently that we have had some free-standing solar panels installed down in the paddock. They had to be down there near the metre-box. The idea is that the panels will supply our household needs and any surplus will feed back into the grid. We’ll receive a small amount for those units.
We’ve now had our first account from the electricity company and there was a $6.00 credit which is a great result as the charge is usually around $200. We need to use appliances during sunlight hours as much as possible. It’s early days yet and we won’t do so well in winter when we have more cloudy weather. But in the winter we don’t have to run the big pump on the bore so we might still be able to meet our own needs from the panels. All in all, we’re pretty happy.
The photo is of Hercules wishing you all a wonderful Christmas.

The state electricity company used to do very good contracts for installing solar panels connected to the meter, a couple of friends gets about 900 euros/year for 8 square meter on their roof, deduced from the bill. Good for the planet and the purse
. But actually they refuse small surfaces like this. I would have installed a few but they are forbidden in the old city here

@JudyEv They are no more "pushing" the solar panels here, after that recent studies are showing that solar panels are polluting. Solar panels contain toxic materials (like lead) that can leach out as they break down, creating new environmental hazards. As we have hail storms in summer and many solar panels have broken down during those storms, they are no more "suggesting" to install them in this area.

@JudyEv yes ma'am, that'd be grand to've. but, 't least the power company credits ya fer what surplus y'ave got. i dunno what the batteries cost here? i do know goin' solar no longer means havin' a huge room fer masses 'f batteries. they've now those lil battery packs that weigh 'bout 50lbs 'n ya can hang'n a wall.

@crazyhorseladycx I think the batteries to store our solar power would cost several thousand each. It will be some years before we save enough to pay for the installation of the panels but it's now one bill less, a good selling point and also good for the environment.

Oh so electricity company pays you extra for using Solar panels ? or is it like since you are using solar panels you see reduced bill
Those Solar panels will be converting solar energy and storing it in Batteries correct ?
So I guess you can use them at Night as well.

Because the solar panels are producing power, our bills are reduced. The panels only produce electricity when the sun is shining. We don't have any batteries as they cost too much. Whatever we use at night comes off the grid and we have to pay for it but for the two months just gone, we generated enough power for our needs.

Wow that is nice that you have that not only is it electricity saving but it also is helping mother nature as well. I am also wanting to have one in my place. But the price is a bit high for now to afford one but I think getting one would help me save some electricity cost for my home since we are almost always sunny in my place and having solar panels would be helpful.

Here only water gets heated. Did not know you could produce your own electricity Must check on that.

@JudyEv I know about that but was not aware that it could be hooked on to the main supply. I will check on this here.

@allknowing Ours supplies most of our needs during daylight hours although it's summer here so we have plenty of sunlight. I don't run eg the dish-washer and the dryer at the same time although it might cope. Any excess we produce goes back into the grid and we get a small remuneration for it.

Well hello there and Merry Christmas Hercules! Now don't nibble the solar panels ya hear?
I think that's amazing how much you saved already. How many panels do you use?

@Namelesss It is interesting to watch how much each appliance uses. There is an app on the phone or computer that keeps track of what's happening.
