Consider this an early Neil Diamond birthday present. He’ll be 79 next month. That doesn’t seem possible, does it? But then again, look how long his great music has been around. Since tomorrow’s song isn’t a hit I guess this is my favorite “hit” from Diamond....so here it is! #2: Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show This was a pretty misunderstood song when it was first released. A lot of people thought Diamond was making fun of tent revivals. In reality, being a Brooklyn, New York boy raise in the Jewish tradition, he’d never had exposure to it before. To say the very least, if you’ve never been to a tent revival, you might think you’ve landed on another planet. “I was blown away,” Diamond said in introductions to the song. This song shows it. I don’t know how anyone could consider this “insulting,” but then crybaby cupcakes aren’t anything new. Blow us away, Neil.
