Change of Plans

Today, we are supposed to have Christmas Day dinner with my husband's relative. I have prepared some buko (young coconut meat) salad to take with us for dessert. It was so good that my husband said he is having second thoughts about sharing it. However, this dinner will not likely happen anymore. The family member called my husband and apparently one of their household members is sick - congestion, and some head flu like symptoms. They insisted that he does not have any other COVID symptoms, but even without COVID we will not willingly go to someone's house knowing that they are sick. They should be resting, and not entertaining. Also, we do not want to contract it and spread it to our own household. So now, we have no plans. We are thinking of visiting with my mother in law and visit my father in law's grave. I realize my husband's niece is disappointed given all the preparation that she did, but I hope she understands that their health, and ours, must come first.

I hope in due time they will able to understand your part of not getting there. Better safe than sorry.

I hope so too. I hate this, but I will have to choose our health first.

@Raine38 You do not need to feel guilty about it. In the first place, you have a very valid reason and no need for further explanation. I think, she'll do the same if she's in your shoes.

We felt terrible and bad for them, but I really think they should rest and avoid entertaining.

I am sorry, but it does make sense to be safe.

Yes, as much as I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, I cannot risk getting sick.

I hope not too, I hope they get tested. The sooner they got diagnosed the sooner they can get treatment.

Sorry about the change of plans but it's a good decision to be safe rather than sorry. Merry Christmas

Yes, I thought so too. I know they will not like if we get infected too, and I know they do not like us not showing up. I guess I can still share the buko salad with them - I will make a quick and safe drop from outside their house.

I just want everyone to be safe and healthy. Once we get past this, we can still all get together and celebrate.

You did the right thing. Whether it's the flu, covid or a cold, she should have cancelled the dinner.

I don’t blame you. I’d do the same. Merry Christmas anyway.
