So yesterday was my birthday and since no indoor dining in NYC we went to NJ for my birthday dinner. Hubby choose a place in Jersey City called Fire & Oak. It's considered American (New) cuisine.
Our reservation was for 6 pm and hubby was told there is a two-hour time limit for two people. We ended up staying at the restaurant for three hours.
We ordered Pinot Noir wine. I was okay with just a glass but hubby wanted to get a bottle, so that's what we did. It was a $58 bottle. As for the food, we got Kobe meatballs for appetizer, black cod and salmon entrées for the main course, and key lime pie for dessert, along with a cappuccino and an espresso.
The appetizer came very fast but two fish entrées took forever. The key lime pie came quick as well but we waited a long time for the cappuccino and the espresso. When the waiter finally came up to us, we told him that we never got our hot beverages. Turned out he forgot to put the order in. He apologized and brought them to us right away, saying it is on him.
With tax and the 18% service charge automatically included in the bill the total came out to around $192. We did not add extra tip. It was a pretty expensive dinner but everything was delicious and I was happy we went there. The place was great and so was the atmosphere. If only we didn't have to wait a long time for the entrées and the hot beverages...
I'd definitely go there again. Maybe next time we will get the tomahawk steak. It was listed as a Christmas special though. Maybe they don't offer it all the time.

Everything was delicious and we even had leftovers, which we happily ate yesterday for lunch.

Me too. I was rather bummed that he didn't get me flowers or a present. But then he surprised me with lots of black caviar and told me to take a spoon and enjoy.
I wasn't gonna say no to that.

@DianneN Black caviar is expensive. That was very generous of him to get two big cans of it. And I never thought I'd get it for my birthday. That was a nice surprise. I bought crepes yesterday to eat the caviar with. Much tastier this way then eating it by the spoon or on a multi-grain finn crisp.
Edible gifts are nice but then you eat them and forget. And flowers die quick too. With actual things (whatever they may be) they last a long time, if not forever, and they are reminders of the person that gifted them. Plus you get to use them.
It's not the cost of the gift but the thought behind it that matters. Though some people put no thought into the gift at all.

@DianneN Once for my birthday hubby gifted me stud earrings. My holes are high and when I tried the earrings on I didn't like the way they looked on me. The store where he bought it from had no returns, however, they did give store credit thankfully. I ended up getting three different pairs of Swarovski earrings that I really love for the price of those stud earrings.

I'm glad you were able to find a restaurant with indoor dining. We had Key Lime Pie just about every night with decaf coffee when we were in the Keys. Yum!

It was really good, though I didn't eat the crust. Just the key lime filling. I was pretty full come dessert time but I had to try it.

Thank you. It was really good. Sucks I didn't get a candle to blow out.

@CarolDM I wonder if hubby would've told them it's my birthday if they would've given me a candle but I somehow doubt that because of covid.

Yeah. It was a good time. I do wish though that we didn't have to wait such a long time for our main course or coffee drinks.
