Some Dresses are just for showing off: Not good for anything else

Beautiful design. Bold Prints. Nice checks. Good looking stripes. Great colors. Yes, there are dresses which come with some or most of these. These look adorable, fashionable and good looking. Yet at times these are just good for showing off. They do not serve much purpose otherwise. Like I have a Green sweater with horizontal Dark Blue(almost blackish) horizontal stripes from a well known brand. I purchased it in the year 2010. It looks great and well carries a "brand value". However, when I wear it now a days, I feel cold. It does not gives much warmth and after wearing for some time, either I have to wear another full jacket or change to another sweater. So well it is good for showing off but does it fulfills the criteria of giving warmth? Well a big No!! So do you also have such dresses?

I like to buy nice dresses and sweaters and I make sure they are appropriate for the purpose I buy them. If it's to stay warm, I check that they keep warm. I never bought anything "to show off", it's not my style.

@LadyDuck I also try to follow the same. Yet sometimes, it becomes difficult to make out when buying. Now, in case of sweaters especially, I first check what material is it. I see some sweaters on display which actually have Acrylic material and they just look like Woollen ones. I instead buy some less glamorous looking ones which can give more warmth. I have seen that Monte Carlo brand is good in this respect.

@LadyDuck Well, some Indian brands keep their names in way that sound from another country, and perhaps I forgot this fact !!

@LadyDuck Yes but names like these make the dresses sound fashionable and trendy. But as such, this brand's dresses especially winter wear are excellent.

I collect designer dresses, but if I’m chilly, I wear something to keep me warm. It was bitter cold on my morning walk, but I dressed appropriately and felt toasty.

@prinzcy Yes, Traditional clothes are good. But sometimes, one has also got to see as to what are more comfortable and which ones are more good looking and fitting.

@marguicha Yes some useful and comfortable clothes last long. The Jacket I am wearing now is 20 years old and another one is 14 years old. These are still good and warm.

I think I don't have such dresses. I always buy clothes I like or I wanna wear. Most of them are comfortable to be worn.

I have a few of them but they are mainly gifted ones. When I buy it I make sure that I get a good value for my money. So it had to be used well. But still at times I have been deceived by looks and brand name.

I have gotten rid of clothes that doesnt serve a purpose. If it is uncomfortable, doesnt reflect my dressing style, too tight, too hot etc.

@youalldudes Yes, if something does not suits us any longer and is uncomfortable, we might discard it!

Oh!!! I have so many clothes like that, they are the ones I have purchased when I was keen on brands, but not anymore. I think, simple things do serve the purpose too ...

@Aansh13 Yes now I try to stick more to the utility than fineness or the glamour. Still some clothes are good looking as well as good for our purpose(s)!

@Nakitakona Well, even some men buy things just for show off. I normally do not do that. Yet one or two of the things that I bought did not turn out to be good in utility terms!
