Wisdom and age have nothing to do

I believe that wisdom and age are two different things. So many people out there, who are on their fifties or above, often take pride in these sentences: "I have lived this life. I know what I am talking about" "I am elder than you. You are still a child. You have to believe what I am saying" "You know nothing about life. You are still a kid" I think this is a totally confused idea. I don't understand on what basis people believe that the older you grow, the wiser you become. Imagine, someone who has spent his or her life doing nothing, being lethargic, remaining in his or her comfort zone. If that person turns 80 and takes pride in saying "I am speaking from my experience of life". Wait, what experience is he talking about? Experience in doing nothing? Now imagine, a young man of 35 years old has travelled the world, has been through life-changing events, has started from scratch to set up a business umpire and has given a major part of his profits to poor children who were starving to death. Obviously, he will have more experience of life compared to the person aged 80, who has done nothing. So we must never believe that the growing age has to do with wisdom. It is experience that has to do with wisdom. Some people are old at 18 and some are ignorant at 60. The more experiences you are confronted with, will guarantee the more wisdom flowing into your life as you will have more learnings from each experience. This is my opinion.

I agree. You can meet a wise teenager and a blithering idiot 80 year old. And those with true wisdom never boast off.

I agree with this. Age and travel and even qualifications or work experience has nothing to do with wisdom. It may have something to do with wisdom tooth. There is reason to brush it well, and keep it safe.

@excellence7 Aw...I was kidding. But the fact remains, there has to be Eureka moment for the issue at hand, to become wise person. A person wise in money matters may not be wise in other matters. People gotta get that fact in their head and accept everybody as wise to an extent, or accept even themselves as dumb to an extent. 100 percent perfection is myth.

Job 32: 9 It is not the old who are wise, nor the aged who understand what is right. 1 Timothy 4: 12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Old people tend to brag but young people must not be arrogant. Only with humility comes wisdom.

Thank you for using scriptural reference to explain this. I agree with your comment.

@excellence7 The Scriptures cover all aspects of life and behavior. We merely had to consult the great quotes written for us millenniums of years ago.

Maturity comes along with age, depending on how it was adapted.

I fully disagree but I respect your opinion. In my opinion, age and maturity has nothing to do.

If you reach 80 years of age and have done nothing with your life, you are a worthless individual. I don't think anyone can reach that age without experience. At 80, unless they are a recluse and never involved themselves with a single soul, they have experience as children, learning what they can so they can carry on in their adult life. They have experience with dating, marriage, parents, employees/employers. They might also be experienced with animals as pets or in the care of them in animal husbandry. You cannot go through this life without gaining experience. Therefore, age and wisdom do go hand in hand. The longer you live, the more you learn. The more you learn, the more experience you gain. The more experience you gain, the more wisdom you have.

wisdom does not depend on age, many are at a young age but have noble wisdom, but there are also many elderly people who even have child-like characteristics that they cannot even be compromised on. So for example, in receiving advice, don't look at who gave the advice (because it could be that the younger ones have a lot of advice and are wiser) but look at what they say (the content of the advice)

You have a very nice opinion I think couple of days back I was planning to make a post on how, for me, age is not just a number. I do expect certain wisdom to be attached with the age. But that would have been in contradiction to this post. Glad I never went ahead with that.
