Failed Mission: No Cheese Balls! Haiz!

I went out to hunt a 'queso de bola' or Edam cheese in town today. In preparation for New Year's Eve, we usually have it to match with 'hamonado' or marinated and cooked meat in a sweet pineapple sauce. I tried my best to find one and went from one grocery to another, but It was a failed mission. Do you have this kind of cheese? Are you fond of eating cheese on special occasions? We had one last Christmas Eve since my wife got it from her employer as Christmas gift. It still is 1/4 consumed since it is only my son that loves to much on it last Christmas Eve. So we will have again this New year's eve as leftover from last Christmas Eve.

I don't know why there is a scarcity of it. I did not anticipate this situation. I will check the other supermarkets tomorrow.

@Shavkat Well l guess it is the situation we are in it’s just kind of hard to move around any merchandise from one place to another. When we visited a mall nearby they were selling their goods at a discount to get rid of their stocks and they claimed that since the quarantine there has been no restocking of their merchandise as deliveries were very rare or no more deliveries coming in anymore.

@rsa101 With the hunting idea, I really failed to have one or two. I am still puzzled why there are 'queso de bolas' this year.

It is hard to find here, even in Asian stores. I would like to get one too to pair with our ham, and plus my husband has never seen nor tasted one. I am adding it to my list to buy next year at an earlier time.

I even asked my friend in Manila. He claimed that he cannot also find them there. I will try my best to find one in SM Baguio City. My sister said that we can find them in the local shopping apps here. I should have ordered it earlier.

Can you get the cheese store to reserve it for you or order in advance and keep them in the storage?

I think it is well-known as Edam cheese in other countries. I will go to the market again tomorrow and try to find one.

Sorry you could not find one. Are they out of stock due to increased demand? What about online?? We don't have any cheese use in our traditional cooking except for cottage cheese called paneer. We make a lot of delicacies with it.

According to my younger sister, they are available on local shopping apps here. But then, it will be after New Year to be delivered. Thus, it will not serve its purpose.

@Shavkat Oh! I see. Must be the high demand during this time that lead them being out of stock.

This is a favorite of mine. I like how the taste of the cheese contrasts with the sweetness of the ham.

Judging from the comments, it seems the cheese is more well known to the Philippines. I never heard of the cheese. Wish you luck on finding one.
