Hi Friends! I hope your holiday celebrations are Merry and Bright no matter what you celebrate. I'd enjoy hearing about it! So, friends. I celebrate both Yule (the Solstice on Dec. 21st) and Christmas. If enough people want to hear about the whys I will share. Otherwise, just know I keep both. Seems like this year I saw a lot of my friends on social media saying how against the phrase "Happy Holidays" they are. It should be "Merry Christmas" they say. I'm not sure why, since it's honestly true that there are many celebrations that happen this time of year, but whatever. Personally, I don't care if someone wishes me a Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Joyous Yule, Fantastic Kwanzaa, Happy Holidays or whatever else. I'll just be happy someone took the time to say something nice to me. But I'm getting off track. I went to stay with my mom for the holidays - starting with Yule on the 21st. We had a nice meal (pot roast!) and opened a gift or 2 each. Then, Christmas eve we had another nice meal (ham and mac n cheese - my choice) and opened the rest of our gifts to each other. I got (in no particular order) - A pedicure set, a "sanitizer" that works with a UV light, the "Traveling Wilburys" double disc set (yes, I still prefer my music on cds), A big, nice Roy Orbison book with lots of pictures, Chocolates I got for my mom - A donut pan (for baked donuts) , a silk scarf, another fashion of sequined scarf, a dvd ("Planes , Trains, Automobiles" a classic comedy), and a salve that is hard to find that she likes And we spent the days in between watching holiday movies, doing a bit of dance, and resting. We also drove around and looked at holiday lights. Now I'm back at my home, and she will come up and stay New Year's eve and into New Year's Day. In all, a nice holiday season in spire of the situation with the world. How about you? I certainly hope that everything is well and happy with you my MyLot friends! Photo: Pixabay user Farbsynthese

That's a good list of gifts there. You are right, what we celebrate or how we wish each other doesn't matter. As long as we keep the niceness and spirit associated with these festivals and celebrations, it's all that actually matters. Hope that we are into a better year soon. Keeping our faiths intact and hopes high

Thanks, good useful stuff. Thanks too. It makes me a bit sad when people take an ...almost... argumentative stance about holiday greetings. But as long as we keep kindness and generosity you're right... it's the feeling, the attitude that counts the most. :-)

Merry Christmas Faye! Yet another term that's been on the endangered PC list for a while now. Although businesses cave to the PC police, I'm glad Christians and many others don't find offense in this word. After all, a religion's celebration of a special event should be rejoiced not downplayed or removed from society. I don't object to other holiday terms so why the fuss over Christmas. Some nice presents there and I still play CD's too... And a Happy New Year to you Faye! Seems no one has yet found offense to this grand old saying

I agree completely. I think in this area that Christmas is the holiday celebrated by the majority. I'm not sure why it would be offensive. even if someone doesn't keep it - it's still a time of year and we are SURROUNDED by it. I do hope that we are allowed to keep decorating and outdoor lights and everything. Ha ha! Yay - someone else who likes Cds Very Happy New Year Wishes to you , too!

I know, right? I think it's a poorly thought through thing on their part. It's like making the assumption that the only celebration event happening at this time is Christmas. (??) Thanks! It was nice :-)
