Does anyone use a piggy bank anymore?

I had a plastic blue piggy bank when I was young. I remember that the bank had two pink splotches which were the rosy cheeks of the girl. The hair was long and there were ridges in the plastic to indicate the strands of hair. I can't remember if it was braided or not. There was an indention in the bottom which made it easier to cut and retrieve the mostly pennies inside. I was around 16 when I opened the bank up and deposited all the money into my very first bank account. I wish I had saved the bank instead, though I think it was mostly full. Do you still own a piggy bank?

I still have a piggy bank. It's an actual pig. And yes, I still drop my change in it, although I don't really carry cash or coins around much these days. But I did find a quarter on the ground yesterday that went into the piggy bank! lol

@moffittjc I've seen lots of people put their loose change in the donation things at the front of registers or even tell the cashier to keep whatever change there is.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Haha, me too! But I guess a lot of people don't care about loose change, because I find an awful lot of it on a daily basis.

@ScribbledAdNauseum No, it's not an actual piggy, it's either a sea lion or a seal.

Oh, I bet that is a precious thing. I've seen porcelain banks and I think we may have one or two around here as well. How do you get the money out of the bank when you want to use it?

@ScribbledAdNauseum There is a hole on the bottom of the piggy bank which is only closed with tape.

@thelme55 Oh I see. I believe I've seen some ceramic or porcelain banks that have a rubber stopper at the bottom of them.

@mrki444 That is a good idea. I have a friend who used to tape envelopes to his wall and do the same thing, but with paper money.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I had to destroy my piggy bank, so I had to collect coins until they didn't fit anymore.

I should research why "Piggy" is the name of the little savings containers and if maybe it has something to do with a slang term.

Not anymore, but I keep a jar of change. It is an old jar from a burnt out scented candle that I just cleaned. Once it's full I take it to the bank to deposit in my account. My husband has an old tin of biscuits that he uses.

Hey whatever works! I usually take mine to coinstar because I don't feel like rolling the change up and going to the bank.

My husband brought me home a little green plastic piggy bank that he got free from one of the banks. We are filling him full of quarters and will cash him in for some "dinner out" money!!!

I love that idea! For my friend's birthday, I bought her a jar that says "Jeep Fund". Her husband works for PODS and he's sweet enough to put any tip money he receives (he doesn't always receive tips) into the jar for her.

Depends on what you classify as a piggy bank I guess. I have coin jars. I fill them and eventually cash them in and invest the money.
