If cooking black eyed peas on New Year's Day brings good luck...

What will happen if I cook pinto beans instead?
But I don't believe in luck, so it probably won't matter! They do smell yummy simmering on the stove. Later I'll bake or fry some chicken, make some herbed potatoes in the microwave, and fry some cornbread.
It's also said around here that whatever you do the first day of a new year is what you'll do the rest of the year.
Oh man, I'm in trouble. I slept until 9:15am (an hour later than usual), cooked and had pancakes, bacon, and coffee for breakfast, played on my phone while my husband napped, ran the dishwasher, and just might possibly take a short nap this afternoon.
It's a dreary and rainy (drainy?) day, so will stay in. Between taking down the Christmas decorations, we'll watch a movie, then who knows.
Do you have special New Year's traditions where you live?

They were good, I wonder why I only make them for the first of the year lunch.

We always have pork and sauerkraut for New Year's Day. The pork is supposed to be good luck. Beans and cornbread sounds delicious! Happy New Year!

All the food discussion made me hungry, we don't really have New Year's traditions. I am just really hoping 2021 is better overall than 2020 was.

I've heard of this. Being a puny part Chinese, sometimes I would eat noodles on New Year's day or birthday. Mom don't even follow the tradition. It's just me. I don't believe noodles will bring luck, longevity or whatever, but I still eat noodles on such day from time to time.
