What do you do if your boss decided to fire your colleague?

Yup, that is what my boss told me the day before. He intended to fire one of my colleague due to certain reasons. Asked for my opinion . I know that he wanted my support for his decision. If I am against it, I would be against him instead.
What would you do?

Yeah i did but it was risky, i was scolded for speaking up for my colleague.

Yes, you are 100% correct. I don't understand either. I think he lacks of confidence in his decision. Requires backup
