The Zen master, Fredik Fredikpo, was dying, and he was wondering if his life had been mostly lived in vain, too loftily so, or if it had been of some practical use to help, at least someone, other than just himself.
He had mostly just lived in Zen Temples, and given out Zen teachings, but what had he done for the greater world, nothing much at all, he was thinking ruefully, to himself then.
Just then, a student appeared at his door, and said to him:
"A nearby newspaperman has just told us how you saved, and changed his life, once."
"You told him not to just write sensationalism types of news, but to write some feel-good true stories of real people living too."
"He had done this, by his writing of a story about you, and so this proves to us, how practically perfect was your life, as well as being zen perfect too."
The master picked himself up, and said,
"Well, you have helped me to see past my death into the reality of it as still being life,"
and there, and then, he died with a smile again on his face.
The student wrote this Zen koan on the urn containing his ashes.
When is a life practically useful?
When it is practically useful!

So deeply meaningful, what a lovely story that imparts to others to see the purpose of life. Actually we can be like a book or anything that can be read, and nowadays be posted in social media. Our life will surely continue even after leaving this world and will be written so as to be remembered and that is if we live a life full of love. Even small good deeds, a small gesture of kindness will make beautiful life to go round and round.

Thanks for your appreciative comments for my story. What you said is very true, indeed.
My mother's life of love is certainly remembered by all who knew her.
Writing can be a great way of sharing to others from all parts of the World.

@innertalks. You feel young when you embrace others with love and care and that is life. When we receive kindness, the surroundings become colorful to us. If all unites then we are brothers and sisters having concern and respect with one another. Let us not consider materials as life because it is the thing where greed comes out. Materials should be shared for everyone to live in contentment.

@innertalks Yes I have read a lot about the american indians, their beliefs are interestingly more humane. They are so much attached to the deep wonders and mysteries of mother nature. Please see Leo Rojas and hear his music in you tube the title of the music is Circle of Life. It is so relaxing, the instrument is flute. You will be carried away how he moves.

News are written in sensationalzed form in order to get a better number of readers.

Yes, most people think that too.
The fact that the Zen master could see past profits to the heart of the people was what changed this newsman from a greedy profiteer, making money off sensationalised stories to one that could also appreciate the true stories of life too. He lived for life and love then, rather than for the quick profit, and greed.

@macayada Yes, we should always try to remain true to ourselves, in whatever we are doing.

@innertalks True, making money by degrading one's character, where is the conscience of those doing those kind of thing. Being paid for killing good reputation.

@macayada Yes, we all have such hero figures that we admire I think.
I used to like the Phantom comics.
The hero there was more human, and easier to relate too, for me.
