When being too shy could have killed me....

Hey! Hope everyone is doing alright!
I'm not staying on much tonight. Just about to have a bath and watch one of my favourite shows. It's the Aussie version of "I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here." I never used to watch it but around season 3, I caught it and was hooked. It's on TV here but I prefer to watch it online afterwards in my own time. Just having a bit of me time then go to sleep I think.
Anyway!
Random ramble! I was talking to my dad earlier about how shy I have been or can be and I told him a story he never knew about. So thought I would share it with you because I'm interested in knowing if anyone has experienced anything similar.
So I was born in Sydney, moved to Perth when I was about 5 or 6 years old. But when we did live there, every so often the richer side of my family would throw some type of party. They had a huge house, tennis court, big pool, land and probably more but I don't remember. I don't associate with these people now. They are quite cruel, not to mention one of my cousins hits on me whenever I have gone over there to visit my Nanny (my mum's mum). So yeah....not interested in talking with them.
So during one party there, I was like 2 or 3 years old, I didn't know how to swim so I was sat at the side of the pool with my feet in the water. I have no clue what happened, if I was knocked, or slipped but I somehow got into the pool. My body was floating a little bit, would sink a little then float back up then sink a little and....here is the thing that bothers me....I was too shy to call out for help! I just remember my Nanny (she was in my sight) saw me and got up so quick and I guess yelled out for someone to grab me. I don't know what she said, my head was under water but I could see her mouth moving and some girl scooped me up and got me out but that's all I remember.
I look back on it sometimes and think "That's way too shy!"
I could have died....
Have you ever been way too shy when you knew that you should have spoken up?
Thank you for reading. Will catch you all later!

@VivaLaDani13 You can bet that I would scream because I do not know how to swim.

Yes it happens that I was too shy sometimes back in my childhood. I would afford to miss food in school when the teacher asked who has not gotten food but remained silent over shyness.

@VivaLaDani13 Yes, we sure did talk about that. But the funny thing is, I don't really drink much these days. You would be able to get me drunk and take advantage of me very easily!

@thelme55 Thank you, me too. If it happened to me now though, I would have yelled out. Not THAT shy anymore.

@thelme55 That is very true. Being shy can really create issues some times. I'm glad you're no longer shy like that.

@VivaLaDani13 I am no longer shy, too. I have figured it out that being shy doesn’t help me a lot.

Oh wow. Thanks for sharing. That is shy, way too shy. How scary. I'm happy Nanny saw you. I was shy as a kid, a bit less so now, only a bit though... and many times I miss the opportunity to join a conversation... I don't want to inconvenience anyone by interjecting, but then I've been told that I can come off as stand-offy, that's not my intent, at all. But still nothing at all as serious as your situation

@FayeHazel Reading your comment made me smile and actually feel a sense of relief and encouragement. I won't say it fixed anything but I will remember your comment to help guide me through whenever I feel anxiety. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on that as it was really nice to read!
And same to you!

@FayeHazel Thank you kindly for reading. Yeah I can't believe it sometimes when I look back on it. I know for sure if I was in that position again, I would be screaming out for help.
I am sorry you feel that when, believe me when I say, I am actually like that now but mostly due to anxiety. I've been in so many positions where I keep thinking to myself "Say this" or "Ask this" but nothing comes out of my mouth for fear of rejection or saying something stupid. I am also quite standoffish too. It's very difficult at times so I truly sympathise and empathise with you there.

@VivaLaDani13 So welcome! You know, something I've decided on - those of us with anxiety or shyness , probably have some the highest quality conversation to offer because we ARE thoughtful. And when I've forced myself to do it - I notice that people LIKE silly, stupid type banter. Go figure. The whole thing just seems to counter intuitive ....
Much love and support to you

@DocAndersen I'd say so too, though I don't really remember to be honest. It scares me looking back but I don't really remember being scared back then but for the way I am, I'm certain I would have been scared.

@DocAndersen Thank you, I am glad it worked out too. But yes, that was WAY too shy. At least I know now that if I was in any sort of trouble, I'd call out for help.

@VivaLaDani13 i am glad to hear that . i suspect based on your description there was a double shy and fear factor working that time.

Shyness has good use and bad use. In your case that is a bad use of shyness because it will kill you. I like shy people than extroverts

@averygirl72 I agree. Shy has it's pros and cons for sure. And I am like you. Loud people can sometimes make me feel out of my comfort zone.

@marlina I can still be shy but not as much as I was when I was little. It's mainly anxiety I feel around people rather than shyness.
