my dad had us trek across Copenhagen to get the picture shared with this post. The lady in the harbor Copenhagen Denmark.
My last name is Andersen, the same as the Danish Writer. But, sadly there are two reasons why we are not related to him, The first is that he died a childless bachelor. The second is our family name was changed on Ellis island from Andreseen to Andersen.
But my father loved Denmark. And he adored this statue.

It’s funny sometimes to think about the differences in our names because of Ellis Island,.

@DianneN they did, they were also in a hurry. Andresseen (my family name originally) is very common in Denmark and Sweeden. To make it easy on themselves they made Andersen the Danish variation and Anderson the Sweedish variation!

Of course he liked that statue: she’s not wearing a bra.
I’ve never been off the continent (save for Hawaii, which is America but way the heck out there), so I’ve obviously never been to Denmark.

I look at it that Ellis Island did not know how to pronounce names so gave the new immigrants different names. My relatives that came through Ellis Island also got their names changed too. That is nice that he had the picture to share with you. I bet you have a lot of stories about him growing up in Denmark.
