This hasn’t been a very lonely countdown, thanks to all of you. Sorry if your favorites didn’t make the top ten (may this be a nudge to have you make your own lists....I don’t have a copyright on this, y’know ). In the end, there’s only one favorite with “lonely” in the title....and you probably knew it all along. #1: Only the Lonely (Know the Way I Feel) - Roy Orbison The radio plays Roy Orbison singing for the lonely (Bruce Springsteen, “Thunder Road”) Good thing he stuck that parenthetical part in there because he knew the Motels would come along 22 years later with another “Only the Lonely” song!!! One of my 100 favorites. One of the greatest songs in rock and roll. One of the greatest voices in rock and roll. And to think, he was enjoying renewed popularity with the Traveling Wilburys when he died at the terribly young age of 52. We’ll always have his music. And what incredible music it is.
