How sad is it to have pets instead of children?

Someone said to me that it's so sad to have cats instead of children. I am not sad because I don't have money to raise children. And I take meds. I can't have children if I take meds. I don't think that it's very sad to have pets instead of children. Pets made me happy and they were like children for me. And children move away and people are left with their pets.

Two different subjects. I lost my son, and have two cats. Not the same.

I am so sorry for your loss. I think that is definitely a different situation.

I know they are not the same, but being alone is better? At least a pet can be a friend. Some people can't have children.

My wife and I tried to have kids, but it didn't work out. So, now we have a cat again. I am perfectly fine with it.

For me animals are like children. They are members of the family.

this is non sense. Some people for whatever reasons cannot have children. Some prefer not to have one. I think having pet is a choice as well as having children (for those who do not have medical issues). Pet is family too

Cats and dogs are like my children since they are loyal to their owner.

No it is not sad at all. I always ask people why have children if you can't afford proper care for them? I don't think just in financial angle. Some people just are not ready for kids.

I think you can have kids even in a bad financial situation. It's not always someone's fault for the situation they're in. I think as long as you love the child and do your best to take care of them and raise them, then that is fine. But then again, I am in the states where things are a lot different than other countries.

It's only sad if someone wants children and they cannot have children.

@dya80dya I am sorry for him, but it is silly to want to say that it is sad to have pets... he should try and he would feel better.

This is such a person. He really wants to have children, but he can't. He can't have them because he can't find a wife. It's sad for him.

That is a horrible thing for someone to say. People don't know your situation. I was told I couldn't have anymore, but was lucky enough to have my baby boy a few months ago, but before that, my aunt asked my daughter when I was going to give her a sibling. That hit hard because my daughter has always wanted a sibling. She has one now, but it still makes me mad that people ask stupid questions like that.

When children grow up, get married and leave, you can’t replace then while pets can always be replaced with a new one when they leave/die.

I don't think that pets can be replaced. They are all different. I had so many different pets and they are all unique.

I don't understand why people are so judgemental. Everyone can live their lives the way they want. Everyone is different and derive happiness in different ways. U keep it up and take care

@dya80dya Someone who has a child or children probably told you that. And that's ok with me, I respect. It is normal for someone who has children to talk like that, but again I understand people who for any reason cannot or do not want to have children, say the opposite ..

I don't and I don't care what people think. People can think of anything. They never contribute anything in the end. Just talk, that's all they can do.
