How to "extend" a salad. Yum!

A few days ago, I bought a Mozzarella and cherry tomato salad from my local Deli. When the solid goodies were almost gone, I started adding my extra sharp chaddar, some sliced Roma tomatoes, and even some sliced avocado to the left-over Vinaigrette dressing. Later I added some Granny Smith apple slices. It works! So now I have "salad for days"! Do you do the same kind of thing?

I usually don't have any "fixin's" in the house; so when I eat a salad it's gone.

That's a good way to stretch that salad. I'm sure I've stretched salads with stuff like chicken, pasta, or whatever vegetables needed to be used up.

Not with salad. I use olive oil and apple cider vinegar, so when the solids is et, I drink up any liquid in the bowl.

I love trying to mix up different fruits and veggies to make a salad. If I can make a salad last longer I'm all for it.

I do not add ingredients to ready made salads, because I always make my salads from scratch. I like tomatoes and mozzarella with fresh basil and I like avocado and shrimps, blue cheese with white endives and walnuts... there are many combinations I like.

@TheHorse I put vegetables in a container. I make a Russian dressing and make tuna. I put the salad in a bowl and put salt on it and pour the dressing and then tuna on and eat it. it is really very tasty.

A friend gave the roommates and me a gigantic bag of shredded lettuce a week or two ago. I have been having salads with dinner. Totally delicious. We use the cheap route... dollar store shredded cheese, dollar store dressing and Sam's Club croutons.

One night, when you're feeling snobby, get some hearts of palm from your local Safeway equivalent. The make a salad really special!

I do that alot with pasta salads. I will add different ingredients from the fridge or olives in a jar. It lasts a long time that way.
