The World Is a Classroom

There are so many options when it comes to educating our kids. One of those options is homeschooling and I am glad that we went that route with our kids. My husband and I never put our kids in public school. We took charge of their education. They have all graduated high school. Two went to college, the other two ended up in careers doing work they love. All are law abiding, productive citizens. They live out their faith and live for others.
One of the great things about homeschooling is your learning is not limited to books (although books are wonderful). You certainly are not tied to some bureaucrat's idea of proper curriculum (which usually means immoral or socialist indoctrination). Even though we were guided by a Christian curriculum, we were not tied to it. The world became our classroom. Explorations, field trips, community interaction was as much a part of our learning as reading and listening.
Today, I have the privilege of homeschooling a couple of my grandkids. The other grandkids are homeschooled by their parents. But I have the joy of having the two little guys in the picture. They love hikes and nature walks. They love learning. I feel we are going straight to the Creator and soaking in His creation. It opens up a world of knowledge and brings us closer to Him.

Homeschooling is not an option in my country. But we (and my parents before) were as much responsible for the learning of the young as school is.

I have heard of a few countries that do not allow homeschooling. What about when everything shut down last year? Did your country allow students to learn from home?

My husband and I home schooled our daughter. That was back before computers changed the world. She started to learn to read when she was 2 or 3 years old, by osmosis. She heard us reading to each other and picked it up and ran. I agree that hands on learning is the best. A lady that we knew at the time was quite angry with me cause I had her four year old grandson helping me make cut out cookies- I figured it was good for coordination and imagination etc. I guess she thought that making cookies was for girls. The little guy had a great time helping out, though.
