This was taken from The Madison journal. (Tallulah, Madison Parish, La.) 1888-current, January 29, 1921 It can be found on ChroniclingAmerica.loc.gov
It has been quite awhile since I've done these. What do you think of this comic strip? Of course I've clipped a couple of headlines underneath it too.
Wonder how old the boy is?
Keeping warm was a different task one hundred years ago. No electric blankets or heaters to keep people warm in those days and snow shoveling was done by hand.

Yes. I remember last year reading about woman who recounted her time as a girl in the late 1800's. She said her favorite thing was riding in a sleigh.

@thelme55 I think so too. I know there are places here that do it for events. Well, in my state but not my area.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Riding on a sleigh would be fun.

My father's mother had one in her house at one time. I don't believe it was ever used but as a child I thought it was interesting.

@LadyDuck A friend of mine had one at one time, but I believe it was a much newer model.

This reminded me of certain moms I know who are way overprotective of their kids
. Kids will gladly play in the snow or mud, but some parents won't let them. I think the boy would have wanted to be outside in the snow all day if he could!

Oh I bet he would have loved being in the snow.
My backyard for part of my childhood was a dirt hill. Mom encouraged me to go play in the dirt.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Growing up we had a dirt yard - my dad did not want lawn in the back. I loved my mud pies

@much2say I bet it saved a lot of time mowing! Our yard now has a lot of mulch and soil in the front because it's mostly tree roots in those areas.

Never heard of this one before must be before my time. Me and my boyfriend still shovel parts of our driveway not all of it because our neighbor comes and plows it for us

@Tina30219 sounds like a fun place to read to be honest. I like being outside, but I don't do a lot of outside things. I don't go camping much because I don't drive and don't have anyone to take me unless I go with friends.

We will shovel if it's gotten too bad, but honeslty I'm the only one that goes outside when it snows.

I was thinking the same thing. It looks more modern than the 100 years that it really is.

@paigea They certainly didn't and then in the blink of an eye things were vastly different! Technology surged and housework became easier, women started to work because their menfolk were off to the wars etc.

@porwest Oh yes, one of my favorite things is to figure out the inflation of an item from way back when.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That's fun too, especially when you see how much cheaper things were back in the day. Granted, people made 10 cents per hour then too. lol

I honestly didn't think they had comic strips back then. That is pretty funny.

When I was a child I loved to read the comic strips in the newspaper.

I guess the mother feels that her son will get sick from being cold and wet?

@CarolDM I am not sure if the regular paper is offered or not. What I refer to is some sort of free thing. We get them sparingly.
