Oh No!

We are currently experiencing problems with mice where I live. Let's face it though, there is a plague of em a coupla hundred klms away. Mice are kinda cute so I have no problem watching them scurry here and there from where I sit at my work table while watching T.V ..Then they leave turds everywhere and this I ain't so happy about (their widdle is worse but difficult to see.) They can be a jolly nuisance by chewing things and getting into food cupboards and leaving all sorts of mess. However, this is not where it ends. While I'm (sort of) OK with mice, rats are a horse of a different colour. I hate the very idea of them and if they are in the flesh, they scare me silly. This morning, I was putting fresh laundry into the linen cupboard. In the bottom of this cupboard is a large plastic carry bag in which I am storing blankets. Something dark and menacing scurried across the top of this bag and my first thought was "that's bigger than a little mouse". I stepped back and quickly shut the door with some force to make sure the thing knew it was trapped inside and that I was sure it would be stuck in there. The question of the day is: What now?

Call pest control/rodent control/ Neither mice or rats are very healthy to have on your home.

One time I saw a mouse coming out of the stove in my grandparents' apartment. They weren't home. I ran outside and stayed there for a while before coming back inside.

I live in a regional/rural area. Pest control is not only hard to find but expensive. I may give our local council a call . The problem is, it's not just me. The situation is widespread.

There's really no point when there's a plague.

How is liking cats a solution. There are 2 cats next door who come into my yard. They have mice, I have mice.

Get cats. Natural rat catcher. Might leave in front of your bed or on your bed as gift and compliment. Powered by cat food at least twice a day. On the serious note, traps would help as well. You just need to place bait in it.

I had already remembered the gift. When Banjo was with us, he would bring home "gifts" for the dogs to play with. He preferred to keep the snakes to himself.

@prinzcy Sorry to laugh. I couldn't help but see a picture in my mind. That's a surprise I would not like.

@MsTickle mine left rat tail in front of my dresser the other day. Surprised me a lot. It's a huge tail and I thought it's a snake.

Place "live traps", capture them and move them far away from your home. I like mice I cannot kill them.

I don't like to kill either but it's a plague and they will just keep coming until they stop for whatever reason.

@MsTickle In this case you have to use traps with poison.

It's a pity you can't spray them like you can cockroaches.

I have traps, the snappy kind and they do a good job. Not sure they could catch and kill a r.a.t. though.

@MsTickle I'm sure you can buy rat-traps but you'd have to get it set up before the rat escaped. That would be the tricky bit, especially if you're a bit afraid of them.

The mouse is sneaky, I have to buy a trap immediately. They've gone too far they have eaten half of my snacks that were in the plastic jar.

So rude! They can chew through anything. Try a glass jar, that will stop them.

Oh my, I couldn't stand sharing my home with rodents. A few years ago we had squirrels in our loft so I bought a trap, caught them one by one, then released them miles away. Don't know if that would work with rats.

The thing is, one never knows how many or where they are coming from.
