Yeah, I’m late. I know. I’ve been sightseeing this morning. More on that later. Right now, you want a heart song, and you’re gonna get it!
I don’t even have to issue a “country music migraine warning” on this one.
She Made Toothpicks of the Timber of My Heart - Homer & Jethro
Well, you know with that title it’s a country song. However, thanks to Boots Randolph’s great sax work you don’t have to worry about it sounding all that country.
Technically I guess you could call this “Two Homers and Jethro.” You see, Boots Randolph’s given name was Homer. Homer’s given name, on the other hand, was Henry.
Yesterday I mentioned an unintentional coincidence, given that a Buddy Holly tune was used so close to the anniversary of his death. This is also one of those unintentional coincidences: the anniversary of Jethro Burns’ death is also this week. He died February 4, 1989 of prostate cancer.
Oh, what a legacy he and Homer left in comedy and musicianship.
