There's a sign on that restaurant with all the funny signs (El Arroyo) that says, "Ever noticed how 'The IRS' spells THEIRS?"
Or, as the Beatles said, "I'm the taxman, and you're working for no one but me."
One of the most dreaded annual traditions was accomplished tonight: I filed my taxes. In the infinite generosity of their hearts, THEIRS, I mean the IRS, is letting me have a couple of dollars back.
That does make me wonder: do other countries have to go through this rigamarole? I suppose so, because the Beatles nailed what our tax season is like, and they're British.
My sympathies to everyone as they endure tax season in the good ol' USA. Hope you get a lot back!!
The aforementioned John, Paul, George, and Ringo and their IRS anthem:
How swell of them!

It's funny. You're the second discussion I've seen, today talking about filing taxes. The odd thing is, tax season won't officially open for another.... five-six days give or take (opens Feb 12th this year). And, like the dummy I am, the second Turbo Tax sent me that E-mail that returns were welcome for E-filing, I started looking for my husband's W2. And, E-filed as soon as my husband returned from work (I needed the numbers off his licence). Now I don't expect to see my refund until early to mid march.

That's what Turbo Tax said when I filed, too. They'll send it on February 12, and I should get the refund in early March. The best thing is that it's out of the way!

@FourWalls Yep. If you do direct deposit like me, it takes about 21 days. I won't start looking until mid March because Feb has two-three less days.

Thank you!! Not much, a little over $100, but it beats paying. It'll go into the "rainy day fund" that I emptied to get the furnace last month.

I guess that means I should do my own taxes soon. I hope I get a couple of dollars back too.

the reality is they set the date - they are not accepting tax returns until 2/12 this year. I guess it is important to be special.

You used to be able to file starting January 1, which gave you three and a half months. Now you have two months. Oh, well, makes THEIRS, I mean, the IRS, work harder.

Better to get at least a little back than to pay in.

Last year, for only the second time in my life, I owed taxes. And despite retiring from my career last July, I made even more in 2020. I'm going to owe big-time again. My investment income, paintball tournament winnings, and other passive income keeps pushing my income much higher than I keep anticipating. I need to get this all figured out, so that I don't keep owing from year to year.

I filed ours a couple of days ago; and we are getting back everything we paid out. Love the Beatles and Taxman.
