I really like a (1959) jazz album called Kind of Blue. It is by an American jazz musician named Miles Davis. Have you heard of him? Some of the other musicians on that album are also pretty famous to American jazz musicians and listeners. They include Julian (Connonball) Adderley, John Coltrane, and Bill Evans.
As a bass player, I have discovered that the bass lines to the songs on that album are not that hard to play. I'm sure Judy Evans's son (also a bass player, and probably way better than me) has noticed this.
I have spent some weeks figuring out the chord progressions to the songs on that album. This afternoon, I played along, and got the first three songs charted out, so I can share them with other musicians. In the end, I will be able to condense my "charts" to the back of a business card.
I am hoping that some of the musicians I played with during recent "pandemic driveway concerts" will be able to play these tunes with me. Some have some knowledge of jazz, and some have some "basic" knowledge of jazz. Jazz music is at the "edge" of my learning curve right now.
I will attach the first song on Kind of Blue. Have you heard this before? Do you think you could enjoy this kind of music?

Are you a boor and a heathen? I don't know what those words mean, but they sounded...something. In the US, jazz is what old guys like me play when we're tired of the same old four chords of folk and rock, but realize we're not good enough to play classical.

I enjoy going to jazz bars, I like the music and there is a unique atmosphere in these places.
There is a very nice jazz bar in Athens called "jazz in jazz", we were going there very often with my husband. I dont know if there is live jazz music in the city though.

Damian was to play at a Galway pub one evening and a musician joined them who hadn't played with the group before and didn't know one particular piece. D wrote out a chord chart on a paper napkin and the guy just played from that. It was really impressive to us.

Way cool. I went to a jazz club with a friend one night. It was in San Francisco. During the first break, I asked one of the musicians how long they had played together. He told me they had never played together. There are certain tunes people know, whether it's in the world of folk, jazz, Irish, or even classical. Send my comment to your son, and he'll simply say..."Yep."

@TheHorse That happened here. Damian was home from Ireland, contacted three friends and they put on our first concert 'Jazz and Shiraz'. They sat round the kitchen table for half an hour with their charts then went on and played. No rehearsal. Several had played with one or the other at some stage but not in the near past.

Yes, I've heard of Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane. I'm not a big jazz fan. I do like Take Five by Dave Brubeck.

@TheHorse I didn't realize that it was that old. I think Take Five was released in the 60s and became quite popular (If I remember correctly.) Ah! Here's what I found:
Two years later it became a surprise hit and the biggest-selling jazz single ever.
