100 years ago today: MUTINY and Females

This was borrowed from the Tonopah daily bonanza. [volume] (Tonopah, Nev.) 1906-1929, February 28, 1921, Image 1Found on chroniclingamerica.loc.gov Another "just which one do I choose?" moment. This paper had a lot of intriguing things on it's front page. A train wreck that killed many, a collision with another vessel that killed one (and probably drowned 14) and then THIS.. Naughty Girls were done with their imprisonment, or so they thought. Twenty five females were being held at a local county jail after causing an uproar at a California school for girls (apparently this was some sort of detention center as the article mentions the girls as "inmates" of the school). Six of them got away, lucky girls.

What little I know about that era makes me wonder if those girls even did anything wrong. Back then it didn't take much for authorities to imprison a girl or woman.

In 1921 it wasn't unusual for girls that got pregnant to end up in one of those schools, they were considered deviants @ScribbledAdNauseum

@rebelann Oh very true. Even in 1960's America, they'd end up in places to quietly have the baby, though I don't think they were imprisoned in the place.

I was actually wondering that myself. They seemed to be enrolled in some type of reform school. They could have easily been orphaned and had nowhere else to go / the family didn't want them so they ended up there. This is the place the girls escaped from :

Oh yeah, they would be wearing ankle bracelets and cameras on every corner would pick up their movements too.

I don't know, but I wonder that too. I hope they weren't to be honest.

I try to find the most interesting stuff, but I also limit myself to five or less minutes of searching.

@CarolDM My favorite is seeing brands that are still available today or even pictures of building still in existence.

Though I wonder what they did? Apparently they were locked away in some sort of facility before this.
