After the catastrophic freeze in Texas, the governor is lifting all pandemic restrictions

The freezing weather has been catastrophic for people in Texas,United States. The people have endured temperatures of well below zero, resulting in cracked pipes and record business for plumbers. Many people there rely on electricity for heat,so when the power went out, people froze-as well as the pipes. There has been much suffering. The governor has decided to suspend mask requirements and lift restrictions on indoor gatherings. I guess he figures a fun free-for-all is much overdue for it’s citizens.

Many were without water, too, and still are. The governor is a moron.

Oh, I forgot about water. I hope there aren’t a bunch of Texans planning to travel to California. I guess Alcupulco is closer anyway. ;)

From what I'm seeing of people I know there, they are still going to wear the masks and stay cautious as much as possible. But I know not everyone will. And here in CA, it's not only about the travelers we may have to deal with. I see my CA friends on FB (those who are all for reopening everything and some who'd like to see the mask mandate lifted) . . . they want to see this here too .

@Aquitaine24 Definitely. Otherwise, you just know people are going to travel . . . and then we never get out of this pandemic!!!

I’m for travel restrictions against states that don’t have pandemic mandates.

@Aquitaine24 I do believe if they drop the mask requirement they should get limited aid from the government. There needs to be a national ordinance

@CarolDM yes, the travelers during Thanksgiving and Christmas helped spread it big time the last time.

Well ,it’s not good if they all decide they don’t need to wear masks or socially distance. Then there are those who decide to travel. They could create a nightmare for other states. There is criticism of Governor Newsom being slow to reopen, but the other states that have little or no enforcement are certainly a huge factor in his proceeding with caution.

@Aquitaine24 Exactly, that's what I was thinking. People might want to get back to normal, but it's not good if all that does it get the virus spreading again. It's like when Boris Johnson lifted restrictions to early in the UK and then there was a second wave.

Well, I think the governor understands that a big part of people's well being is their financial status and opening things back up seems like a sensible and smart idea. Besides, the masks never worked. I think it should be the choice of the people whether or not to wear one.

@porwest well, the CDC was convinced masks were needed, but there was a shortage. That is where the cloth masks come in. And I agree, some are better quality than others.

Well, face masks must work; otherwise, why do doctors use them? If you were having an operation, you wouldn’t want the surgeon to go maskless. It does help if people remember that masks are FACE masks, not moth or chin masks.

@Aquitaine24 Surgical masks do more good than non surgical ones. I will agree with you. Better than 90% of the "masks" in use and even being sold are not surgical masks. Basically, any piece of cloth over your face counts as wearing a mask, so this has all really been just semantics from day one. IF the CDC and the government(s) REALLY were interested in the idea of mask mandates being effective, they would have not only mandated masks, they would have mandated what qualifies as one. So with that in mind one has to question what the real story is behind the pandemic, behind the mask mandates, and what we were really trying to accomplish here. The bottom line for me is that if the CDC and other officials were truly convinced masks were the answer, wouldn't they have done more to make sure that masks in use were the RIGHT masks to be used? IF their intent was really to combat what they were telling us was something we really needed to combat? I think people tend not to think too deeply into things sometimes, and just buy into the front end narrative and accept that. And in the case of Covid, as a result, people were lead into a mass panic, loss of jobs, and loss of freedom as a result. I think the whole thing is wrong and pitiful what the government did here. I think they had a motive, of course. But that's an entirely different discussion.

I think the governor wants the best for the region, just the winter makes the condition of the people very sad, this is the fastest decision to remove social restrictions there
