I have a bright idea

I need.. No, I want a desk lamp. My overhead light does a decent job and I can change it's light intensity, but sometimes I just want light in a certain area of the room. I like the "lantern style" lamps I've seen people make on youtube. I've also seen one or two ideas for popsicle stick lamps including one that a friend's uncle made years ago. Kind of makes me want to make one of those for myself. Here's an idea of one I like. It has a very Japanese Lantern feel to it. Do you like the idea of making your own lamp instead of buying a base and shade?

Thanks! I'll probably tweak the style to make it my own.

@Tina30219 I keep seeing new ideas and I'll probably ask my friends for a few too.

I just found this discussion as I went to your profile. I was not notified of it. Grr. I just bought two new lamps from Amazon yesterday for our new room addition we put on a few years go. They are bears climbing a branch with a lamp shade.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I have three of the antler lamps. When one of them arrived, a piece of antler was broken on it so we glued it back on. I am getting notified better than I was before. I don't think it is 100% but much better now.

Aw now that sounds precious! I had fake deer antler lamp for the longest time until it broke. Not sure why you didn't get notified.

@stephcjh Glad you're getting notified better. I have mine set up in a way that works for me. I used to get far too many. Ah, I like the antler lamps, but I kind of want to go for something old fashioned now.

I used to like to make lamps out of cotton and oil but it was really dangerous if there were flammable objects nearby.

I have heard of this. I think you can even burn a crayon for light.

I like crafting, but I would not mess up with electric stuff, you can start a fire if you use the wrong materials... wood and hot bulbs do not get along well together.

@LadyDuck You are very right. Even things like string lights can get heated far too fast. I have a lovely string of white lights that I seldom use because it takes no time before they are too hot.

Yes, this is a concern for me as well. I am thinking to use battery operated LED lights instead.

@ScribbledAdNauseum The important is to use a "cold" light.

I love the thought of making my own lamp. I see people buy lamp kits, and do amazing things with them.

Yeah, things I would never imagine. I like the idea of using epoxy too, but I don't know how i'd even begin to do that.

I don't think I would want to make my own lamp. However, it is not a bad idea and if you can do it best of luck to you,

Years ago, I made a lamp from a beautiful wide vase. Kits made it easy to do. When I sold my house, it went with it. I wish I didn't let it go. Some day, I may make another but not sure with what.

Oh, I bet the lamp was beautiful. I will figure out what I want to do. I like the idea of the lantern style of lamp but they can be expensive to buy.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I've seen some at Lowe's. My son likes the old fashion ones and thinking of getting one like it. It's where we seen some.

@noni1959 I think I've seen them at lowe's before too, but only during certain times. You could probably find a decently priced one around certain holiday's at walmart. I like the idea of making mine and staining or painting it whatever color I choose.

I love this lamp. My laptop is on my table, with windows all along the back of the house. I get natural light all day.

That is neat. I have a large version of one of those kinds of lights in my bedroom. I love it. I got it on Amazon, but it actually an Ikea product. It wasn't expensive either.

I've never had the urge to make a lamp. Besides my normal lighting I have a touch lamp that I can use anywhere.I have a touch lamp that I can use anywhere.
