Some people won't receive their stimulus checks

and I'm not talking about people who make more than $75,000 per year. This time around the IRS will withhold it if people owe back taxes. I don't know if they've done that with the past 2 checks but I just read that that is what they are doing with the 3rd check of $1400. Seems to be counterproductive to me. Probably if you owe back taxes then you aren't in a great financial place. Keeping it from them due to back taxes seems like a nasty move to me.
Some financially struggling Americans who owe back taxes will miss out on stimulus payments unless the Internal Revenue Service decides to change its rules.

I'm hoping I get mine. My student loans might hurt my chances, unfortunately.

@NJChicaa My student loans defaulted at one point. I'm making payments on them now, but I'm still behind.

I'm willing to bet a few of those with back taxes have valid reasons too. Sure there's plenty that just don't pay their taxes, but plenty who have been struggling for years and who could and would use the stimulus wisely.

@NJChicaa I think it is too. If they must do something they could withhold part of the payment to those people, but to not give anything? It's ridiculous.

It will only apply to those who owe taxes, not anyone else. @ScribbledAdNauseum

Thats what Republican do. My sister actually did not receive her last 600, not sure if it has to do with taxes, she is retired all her income is off her 401 k. she does a lot of write offs for the house. I am never sure how that stuff works they make it so complicated. Maybe she messed up and why she didn't get it but that's when the IRS SENDS A AUDIT. They know everything as far as how much money people make. how much taxes they paid. To me taxes are stupid in the sense should be automatic and only reason they do it is for the rich people gaming the system. This way they can say its why we let you file taxes so you know your country is not robbing you. Country is not robbing us rich people are robbing us and Republicans make sure of it. My opinion of course just calling it like I see it.

The government is always more worried about their money inflow, instead of the welfare of people in our nation.

That's the IRS for you. I think those payments should be exempt; but then I don't owe any back taxes either.
