Tuesday outing...

Tuesday, hubby and I had to go to his parents' house for dinner. It was to celebrate his birthday. Hubby works till 5 pm on Tuesday so I came to Brooklyn around 4 pm so I could go to a few stores before he picks me up after work. One of the stores I wanted to go to was a department store called TJ Maxx. I wanted to go there to see if they have any olive oil on sale, smoked sea salt, or some nice preserves. I also wanted to browse for a new skillet and see if there is anything I could get him for his birthday. And maybe I'd get lucky and find something nice for myself in the clothes department. I was planning to spend a fair amount of time at that store. When I got to TJ Maxx I noticed that the TJ Maxx sign was gone and that the metal shutters (if that's the correct name) were down. That store had gone out of business. I was bummed about that. I've shopped there many times before the pandemic and actually got nice things there many a time. Hubby was dealing with a customer late afternoon and was staying past his official end time. That meant I had to find somewhere else to go to spend the time. I didn't want to wander the streets or sit on a cold bench. I also had to go to the bathroom but there was nowhere to go. Thankfully, I didn't need to go that bad or it would have been a problem. I ended up going to a few supermarkets. I wanted to buy curly parsley and see if there is anything on sale. The first store didn't have it. The second one did but it was not good. I ended up getting it at the third one. Took a lot of walking but at least I got my steps in. Hubby finally picked me up some time after 6 pm. The drive to his parents' house was not long so I was able to make it to the bathroom just in time. We came in to find his brother baking cookies with pot in them. That was his birthday present to hubby, which hubby ended up taking home. They tried to get me to eat a cookie but I declined. No desire for it.

You had quite an adventure. I don't know if we still have a T J Maxx here. I know that we have several similar stores. I hope your hubs had a good birthday! Happy Belated Birthday to L.

Do you have a Marshalls? He had to work on his birthday. Would be nice if everyone had a day off on their birthdays.

@lovebuglena Sorry he had to work. We used to have some Marshalls. I don't know if we still do. A lot of those stores have closed.

What a shame that TJ Maxx went out of business, I remember that I visited one of their stores when we were in New York. I know how uncomfortable it is when you are outside, you need to go to the bathroom and there are non available in the area.

@lovebuglena It is a shame, surely because of the pandemic.

@LadyDuck Probably that is the reason. Another store I loved went out of business. But in this case, it is all the locations and not just this one.
