Who are you protecting?

Are we really protected?
Sigh.
During our clean-up drive yesterday, face masks are almost everywhere. They are being thrown by "irresponsible" people.

Why, why, why can't we just be more thoughtful, responsible, considerate?
In this part of our barangay or community, it is always like the "garbage area" of people who passed by. Before the pandemic, the most common garbage or trash that we picked up were plastic bottles--water, milktea and softdrinks, surely they can afford to buy these but not manners.
We always keep this area clean, because it is near the creek, water flows and we are just trying our best to protect it, but...sigh.
No matter how much effort we put into this activities, if some people are "mindless" when it comes to their trash or garbage, it won't work. And it is frustrating to the point of annoyance that face masks added it up. These people are protecting themselves from getting sick but they forgot protecting the environment. Sigh

We also have the same situation here in our community. People just throw their garbage on the street. What we (our family) do is pay someone to clean our street twice a month. In doing this we are able to provide income (though only a small amount) to someone in our community who does not have a regular job at all and keep our street clean at the same time.

The community should place some garbage cans strongly anchored so that they are not stolen in the streets.

@marguicha Garbage cans are nice but there is also big disadvantage to having them. As soon as people see a large garbage bin or garbage can provided by the government then people will just throw their garbage there and soon garbage will pile up and dogs will scatter them all over the street. It would be a very ugly sight to watch as well as not smell good at all.

It is a shame. I think that, at least in my community, more cans should be placed so that people don“t do that (some of them).

@Lucky15 Some people are so careless. Here there is a woman who always walk her dog on our private roads and she does not clean up after her dog. I took a photo of her this morning and I am going to send to the Mayor. There is a dog park where to bring the dog, she must be fined.

At home, Pretty throws her trash into the trash can... but when we are out, she throws all the trash into the floorboard of the car. When I ask her to put it into the trash, she tells me to just clean it up when I take the car to get fuel. It drives me crazy! Why can't she be bothered to keep the inside of the car clean? *sigh*

@Lucky15 I've tried putting a plastic shopping bag in the car. Pretty ignores that, too. *sigh*

Not to mention that used masks are technically contaminated, so they could make the next person who picks them up sick!

@Lucky15 Creating garbage is sadly a very human trait. We're the only mammals that do it.

We need to dispose of these masks properly. One way to go about it is to cut the ear loops and the actual mask.

@Lucky15 it also boils down to implementing the existing laws and punishing everyone who disobeys these laws.

What happens sadly is that most people are used to solving their problems, regardless of who or what they harm. "I'm fine, I'm not interested in anyone else." That way of looking at life is difficult to change in an adult person. The work must be done since they are children. The problem comes from home, the result of poor parenting.
