100 years ago today: 30 shots and yet a full recovery?

This was borrowed from The Hickory daily record. [volume] (Hickory, N.C.) 1915-current, March 14, 1921, Image 1 Found on chroniclingamerica.loc.gov Man tries to rob a home and gets shot for his trouble. Thirty times seems a bit overkill, but then who knows. I'm no gun expert so I have no idea what "No.4 shot" even refers to here. The caption about a hanging on the bottom right refers to six prisoners being convicted of killing British Intelligent officers. Anyhoosles, I told someone here that I don't read about crime anymore and I guess I lied.

The man was shot with a shotgun. No. 4 shot refers to the size of the pellets in a shotgun shell. No. 0000 is the largest pellets while No. 9 is the smallest. So he was shot once and 30 pellets penetrated his skin. Edit to add: Liar, liar, pants on fire!

Ah, so these were not small, but they weren't large either. And yes, I know! But in my defense I didn't know I would find this one I stumbled onto the site today.

@DaddyEvil The litltle blurb says "close range". Maybe he just opened the door as the guy was trying to pick the lock and shot him? Who Knows! I've shot a shotgun once, but that's it. I'm.. Well i was going to say "going to bed", but I'm going to get oflfine and watch How It's Made. (I really should find other shows on discovery + to watch)

I suppose it depends on where he was shot.

In his back and side. I would imagine the shots to his back would have paralyzed him.

@CarolDM Right, I had to re-read that because I didn't catch one part of it. But still... wow.

No, I thought it was 30 bullets but it was just one. Someone here explained that it was 30 pellets from one bullet.

Apparently it was one shot, but it broke apart and 30 pieces of it embedded in him or something like that. But yeah, I imagine the HO was PO'ed.

I was going to question the 30 shots; but DE's explanation cleared that up.

I can't imagine those 20,000 were there to witness justice being served on behalf of the British officers. Nah, they were there out of pure morbid curiosity.
