The old and the new

Calipers are used to take very precise measurements of small internal and external distances. I think that’s a fair description.
We bought new digital calipers the other day as we’ve mislaid the pair I bought Vince some years ago. These are very fancy and will hopefully get some use before we move house, if and when we do.
At the bottom of the photo, you can see my father’s old calipers. He was born in 1914 so these would be very old. The turning knobs move the parts a fraction at a time, allowing very exact measurements to be taken. Even with what are now out-dated tools, craftsmen still turned out beautiful work.
Our old pair were a huge improvement on Dad’s old ones but of course the digital ones are better again.

If it's not broke, don't fix it. My husband has a bunch of tools that have likely oxidized by now, but are still realitivly useful. Craftsman does make high quality products.

it is interesting really - your father's calipers I suspect still work. That is awesome!

The new ones will be very easy to read. But the old ones last forever

Wow, look at those old tools! I agree with you: even with the old items the results were superb. I'm sure the digital caliper is a little easier to use, though.
