I finally watched The Queen's Gambit miniseries on Netflix. It is based on the 1983 novel of the same name by Walter Tevis. There are six episodes. The miniseries tells the story of a chess prodigy named Elizabeth (Beth) Harmon, from being a child, to becoming an orphan, to growing up and becoming a young woman.
While the miniseries is centered around the game of chess it dives into different kinds of addiction—drugs, alcoholism, and winning. As viewers we really become invested in Beth and live through her struggles with all these types of addiction and see how chess is the one thing that she can really control in life.
I was drawn into the story from the very beginning and didn't wanna stop watching. I finished the entire miniseries in two days. Could've probably watched it in one day, if I didn't have to do other things. So glad that I finally watched it. Anya Taylor-Joy was magnificent in the role of Beth. Not surprising that she won a Golden Globe award for her role.

@lovebuglena I did read that. I thought there was a film about the same sort of thing. I don't know if it has the same name. Everyone here was raving about it. Or maybe it's the miniseries they're talking about.

@JudyEv If there is a movie by that name I have no idea about it. But lately the raving is for the miniseries.

Sounds like a great series. Too bad I don't have Netflix anymore.
