It’s raining on the Rock

In northern New South Wales, Australia, there have been unprecedented floods with a great many people being evacuated from their homes. There have been three deaths so far with people being trapped in their cars and unable to escape. Some towns have been isolated and there is a huge amount of damage to homes and businesses, not to mention livestock deaths. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to try to clean up after a house has been inundated with flood waters.
Even the arid interior has received unprecedented rainfall and there is water cascading down Uluru (formerly Ayres Rock). John Williamson sings a great song called ‘It’s Raining on the Rock’. I’ve added a link which shows the waterfalls on Uluru. The photo is one Vince took when we visited there. There was no rain at that time. I’m reminded again of how lucky we are to live where we do and where we very, very rarely get extremes of weather.
Wild weather spanning most of central and eastern Australia has caused stunning scenes at Uluru, with heavy rain creating large waterfalls on the rock.

@RebeccasFarm It was a terrible miscarriage of justice. She ended up divorced then later married an American and lives there now.

You get extreme heat...it would be too hot for me to live there. I guess the rain will come in handy, although the flooding will not of course.

@JudyEv I think only the coasts would be nice to live on personally...At least you would have some breeze.

@JudyEv It depends on what you mean by extreme,,,you mentioned the other day you were running around when it was in the upper 90's..I.couldn't take that...one though at least you don't have the humidity...It would be really unbearable if you did,,,It gets humid here..so I will stay in the AC as much as possible if the temp is 90 plus.,

Took us several days to clean up the mess that the flood has brought into our house. It was a terrible experience. Right father that incident, i told my husband that we should move and we did!

@JudyEv All our furniture were ruined including our appliances. It was a flash flood. An unexpected one. The water reached the ceiling in matter of minutes.

@Chellezhere We heard about the fires there. They were horrendous. Australia has had similar fires. They seem to get more severe every year.

@JudyEv It sure would. My cousin lives less than a mile from where one of the big fires in Oregon destroyed so much. By the grace of God, my cousin's house was not hit.

when you first mentioned these floods in Australia, i saw your location and i was like "oh
" and then at the end i was like "oh
"
i feel sorry for people living there where floods are because i know how hard it was that one year when we had floods here, it was scary.

What a beautiful photo that Vince took of Uluru. The bright color of the rock just pops against the background.
I saw news reports of the flooding in Australia. The same areas that were devastated by wildfires a year ago. If it's not one thing, it's another. I feel bad for all the people and animals affected by these extreme climate events.

@JudyEv Yes, but be careful of what you say....wildfires and flooding can occur anywhere in the world.

@moffittjc I am never complacent about it. Fire would be the big one here. Bunbury (30 minutes drive and on the coast) has had major damaging storms but even those barely impact on us.

Our area had a bad flood a couple years ago when it was discovered that the owners of two dams in two lakes didn't maintain them correctly. Water crashed into many homes and took away the boats and docks. Houses are still being refurbished at least the ones that were salvageable.
Food waters can really ravage areas. It's unfortunate when people wait too long to get out too putting others at risk too save them.

So the Global Climate change is again making its presence felt. It must be very tough for the people living there, as well as for the authorities.

Yes and for Flood and disaster relief, many a times, army, navy and air force are to be mobilized.
How is the situation now?

@JudyEv Here in California, we have granite near lake Tahoe and in the big mountains. Very Hard Rock. But where I hike at Black Diamond mines (closer to the Coast) it's mostly sandstone. You could carve your initials in those rocks with a butter knife, Sadly, many people do.
