Made a mistake at the bank

I went to the bank today to deposit the $2800 stimulus check and the $12.50 in coins that I had saved up. On the way there I found a dime. It was actually close to my house. I picked it up and put it in my wallet. I walked a little further and found a penny but it was nasty so I left it on the ground. At the bank, when I was filling out the deposit slip I wrote my total as $2800 instead of $2812.50 and didn't catch my mistake. Good thing that the bank teller caught it. She asked me to initial my deposit slip on the bottom by the total amount, which I've never have to do, and I found it odd. When I looked at the deposit slip I noticed that she had crossed out my total and put in the correct one. Oops. That's why she had me initial it.

A good bank teller. She would have caught her error in the evening when trying to balance her drawer if she hadn't already caught it when you were there.

I was lucky as she could’ve just processed the deposit as $2800 without realizing it and taken the $12.50 in coins.

If she didn't pay attention, she probably would've entered the deposit amount as $2800. I would've caught the mistake after checking the deposit receipt but still... Better that she caught it before she did anything.

That's a good catch on her part and nice to see an honest employee! That dime turned out to be lucky indeed!

Good thing for sure. I’d hate to have to deal with it after the deposit was processed if she hadn’t caught it before then.

It's nice that she caught the mistake and corrected it. But shouldn't you have deposited $2812.60 instead of $2812.50, since you found an extra dime on the ground?

@lovebuglena Do you still roll your change? My bank has a change machine that you just dump all your coins in and it counts it up for you. When it prints out the receipt with the total, I just give it to the bank teller and ask for it to be deposited into my savings account.

That one went into my wallet and will go into my roll of dimes. Need to feel that one up.

@moffittjc My bank is Chase. No such thing there. I can go to a supermarket and deposit my coins at the coin counting machine but that charges you a fee. I remember years ago it was 8 cents per $1 it took away. No way do I want to lose my pennies. So, I fill up the rolls and bring to the bank for a deposit.
