Which Side Of The Bed?

If you are one of a couple do you always sleep on the same side of the bed? I was talking to a friend yesterday and she said that she and her husband don't - whoever gets to bed first decides which side they want. That seems odd to me as during 53 years of marriage I always slept on the left, my husband on the right. How about you? Are you a creature of habit or don't you care which side you have?

We are creatures of habit. He is on right and left is my side. In fact even when he is traveling and I have all bed to myself, I stay on left side.

It was the same for us, I would still keep to my side even if he wasn't there.

@jaboUK There is a famous joke here. Why do men sleep on right side? Because they have to be right even in their sleepOr rather they can only be right in sleep.

I think when we got married we argued for five minutes about which side of the bed we would sleep on. Since then, even divorced/single again, I sleep on the left.

I wonder if the left is more common for the woman - that was definitely the side I preferred.

@just4him It's probably the side of man, where God removed one of his rib!

If we are in bed solo my husband and I will sleep in the middle of the bed since the other isn’t there. When we are both sleeping I take the right side and he takes the left. I’m the close to the door because when the kids come in I can hear them. My husband is a rock wouldn’t hear a thing unless you smack him.

@jaboUK it’s true to! The kids even as babies they’d cry loud nothing. He tells a story of how he got pushed out of his bed as a kid because he didn’t hear his mom yelling at him there he need to get into the basement because of a tornado. I’ve hit him a few times in his sleep and I do I don’t hit light.

That sounds extremely odd to me. I cannot even sleep if I switch the side of the bed with my husband. Same as you, I sleep on the left, my husband on the right. I had a creature of habit.

@jaboUK Let me check if I can find statistics, or if there is a reason why women sleep on the left. If I find something, I will come back and let you know.

So far nearly all the female commenters here have said they sleep on the left, it would be interesting to know what the statistics are (if iindeed there are any)

@kobesbuddy That does seem odd - I don't think I kept to the same side when walking with my husband.

@jaboUK Whenever we walk together, Jay is on my left side for some reason. Isn't that funny? I've never thought about this before!

I tend to sleep on the right side but my wife is one of life's worst nightmares. She starts off sleeping on the left then right then bottom then top then left always pulling the quilt and has arms like a bloody windmill and legs like a helicopter rotor! I love it when she is away or l am then l get the whole bed to myself!!!!

That does sound odd. I sleep on the left, ( if I am on my back ) But in the trailer I take the inside, which is the right. Hubby has to get up several times in the night.

We are the same way. We have our sides and we have kept it that way from day one and I see no reason and have no desire to change that. If you use the headboard for a reference, I'm on the left and she is on the right.

We are creatures of habit, and always stick to the same side. We have to turn the mattress occasionally so that it wears evening as my hubby's side always sinks before my side does.

Your husband's heavier than you? My husband was quite small so I'd be heavier than him but we never had any problems because of that.

@jaboUK I certainly do the left side has always been it but now I also wake up a bit and turn to the right for a little while just to change position You know it's funny I have a habit of changing the sheets every two weeks I mean it is only me using the bed but then I think no one has even slept not he right side and yet I put on new sheets

I don't necessarily care but it's easier for my husband to have the left side looking at the bed. Just like the picture.

@jaboUK my husband would have a hard time if we had to switch because he's missing part of his leg and it's used to stabilizing himself in a certain way when he gets out of the bed.
