Don't let their size fool you, they can still do a lot of damage!

I live way out in the country, so I have to travel down a lot of two lane roads and theres no telling what kind of animal might run out in front of your vehicle.
About a little over a week ago, I was traveling home from my son's house. About 8 miles from my house, I seen a chicken on the side of the road and started moving over to the other lane. About the time I got close to the chicken, it flew across the road and I hit it. All I seen was feathers flying eveywhere!
I drove on home and I really didn't think to much more about it. I was thinking at the time that since the chicken was small it couldn't have done to much to the car. After this I think I drove my car to the store which is around 10 miles away. Well a few days later I was going to go to my son's house, when I pulled onto the road my car wouldn't hardly go. I had to pull back into my yard. When I looked at my dash, it had a warning about the transmissin and the park brake. My car was undriveable.
I had the car towed to the shop for them to check it. Boy was I surprised when they called and told me what was wrong. That chicken that I hit had done a lot of damage. There was a hole in my radiator and it did something that caused all my transmission fluid to leak out. They said I had to have a new radiator and transmission.
Thank goodness my insurance company paid to fix it.
It still blows my mind, that a little chicken could do that kind of damage to a car.

Wow, who would have thought a chicken could do that! Glad your insurance covered it. It must have a Fowl Clause, lol!

Now that sounds really odd... I've accidentally hit animals that dashed in front of my car before but have never had very much damage.
Once I was... maybe
... driving a little too fast over a hill when a vulture took off from roadkill and went through my windshield. That was scary and not fun at all. Another time, a deer jumped into the road as I was driving at dusk. It killed the deer and left a small dent in my front fender.
And finally, I was teaching a friend how to drive a stick shift down a country road when a horse came bucking and lunging out of a field and into the side of the car we were test driving. (The lot we got the car from tried to sue me for the damage but I wasn't the one driving. They tried to sue my friend, but she had no control over the horse lunging into the car and finally they sued the farmer. The car lot owner had tried to sue the farmer first but he hired a lawyer so they decided to sue the two of us instead. The judge nixed that idea, though.)
I think my discussion is the first time I've ever talked with you before. It's a pleasure to meet you.

Wow, your luck seems as bad as mine when it comes to things running out in front of you. You was lucky with no more damage then that with the deer. I had about 3 of the deers that I have hit do some major damage to the front end of my car. Over the years I think I have hit around 5 deers so far.

@sweetashoney Wow! I've seen vehicles totaled after a deer tried to jump over the vehicle and ended up in the motor or through the windshield. You're lucky to be alive.
I couldn't believe it didn't cause more damage than that. The state trooper said the edge of the fender must have caught the deer in the head. It killed it instantly.

Yea, be careful, you better believe the next time I see one beside the road I will slow down real slow. When I hit this one, I was going around 60 so that might be why it done so much damage.

@sweetashoney - Yes, we accidentally hit a dog that got on a freeway one time. It did a lot of damage to our car. But, I never thought a chicken would!

@JudyEv Oh yea, I think that was the problem. I slowed down and started moving into the other lane when it flew up and I hit it. I beleive if I would have stayed in my land it might have flown in front of my car.

I am surprised. I almost hit a deer once, and I would have been a wreck. I slammed on the brakes, and it broke my brake line, but at least I didn't hit the deer. I could have totalled the car, and also since I am an animal lover that kind of thing would have given me PTSD for sure.

I used to own a red Focus and I hit around 5 deer while driving that car. I started saying it must be a deer magnet or something. But really what it is though, I live way out in the country with a lot of woods around the roads, so they may run out in front of your car at anytime. I also think at the time it may have been because of hunters running deer with their hunting dogs and they run across the road in front of you.

wow. I would not have thought it. I hope the mechanics didn't just add on one of those things. Sounds a bit suspicious to me. Good thing you didn't have to pay for it.
