I Just Came Up With A Weird Idea

Am I crazy or what? 24-25 years ago I developed fibromyalgia. I spent 5 years in litigation with my employer's insurance company trying to get my long-term disability. I had to endure private investigators following me, a staff member saying I got my LTD only to be told by another individual that I did not. I even faced a government panel in an effort to get my disability pension. I was rejected several times. Last year I decided to apply again since a few years ago I managed to get my Disability Tax Credit Certificate. This is the government acknowledging that I am disabled and my husband can claim me as a disabled spouse. But they still won't give me my pension. I was rejected again. They are saying that yes I have fibromyalgia and struggle but I am still able to work... in their eyes (FYI I didn't wake up until 1pm today). In speaking with a representative from my member of parliament's office, I told her I had applied for a job and was called back for a second interview but when I told them I had fibromyalgia I wasn't hired. Whether that was the reason, who knows? As I go through the appeal process again I thought I might do something outrageously different. What if I went around interviewing managers in local businesses, describe my illness and limitations to them and then ask them if they would hire me. If I actually got documentation from employers stating that they would not hire me, would this help my case? I will not have a job interview and not tell someone I have this illness. That's not me. It would be dishonest. I am an unreliable employee. My ideal job would be for a small independent owned business who could handle my sporadic work schedule which relies on how much sleep I got, what time I managed to pull myself out of bed, and how much pain I am in. I am sure I cannot be slugging huge bags of product at the Bulk Barn for example. I would not be asking these people to hire me, I would be asking them if, knowing my condition and limitations, would they be inclined to hire me. I have a call in to talk to the Nurse Practitioner at my doctor's office to hopefully get my right shoulder x-rayed. I know it is arthritis as I have been experiencing pain for a few years and sustained an injury (line-drive soft ball to the shoulder in my twenties) many years ago. But there has been no official diagnosis of arthritis and I am hoping this might help my case. And since the government is implying that I send more documentation, I thought this might be the best move for me. Does interviewing managers, even if on the phone, sound like a crazy idea? I mean, if I got a report of our discussion from them, this would be documentation, would it not? Does anyone think this is a good idea or have I just gotten desperate and basically lost my marbles? P.S. I am in desperate need of an income.

I am not really sure. I have been denied more than once for my disability also. I have Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis. I even asked an attorney for help and they said they could not help me get it due to not enough recent work year points and also because they say my husbands income can provide for us. I now just work online taking surveys and such to make some money to help pay the bills and buy things.

My husband has supported us for 25 years but things have gotten tighter and because I got some inheritance money he wanted me to take over a bill. Unfortunately it is the biggest bill and I just can't do it anymore. I use apps to get money back from my groceries. But like surveys and mylot, it's a slow build of dollars.

@patgalca Right. I am not eligible for disability. I have always worked outside of the home until I am unable to now but due to recent years, I do not have enough work points to qualify for disability. My husbands income will not cover everything alone. I have to make money to help us. I use a credit card and Swagbucks to get cash back on purchases. I pay it back in full though. Don't want interest charges. Yes. Mylot is a very slow money maker. I could not rely on it at all. We never know what we will get here no matter how much time you put into it. My main earner is surveys though. I go through several of them per day and qualify for some and some not but I do go through enough of them to get it to add up daily.

@patgalca I do the ones for 15 minutes or less. There are some I take that also pays me a portion of the survey value for just attempting to take them. I do not qualify for all of them either but I go through several of them each day and luck into quite a few. Yeah. I get a percentage back also from using my credit card to make purchases and I also get a percentage back from using Swagbucks also to make the purchases so it is like double the cash back. Seems like you have yours figured out as well for getting cash back. I am joined with websites that pay me to take surveys, watch short video clips, complete short tasks online, etc. right at their website daily. Those are what makes me the most money.

I don't think it's a crazy idea at all but I don't know if it would work. No harm in trying I guess.

I come up with ideas in the moment and then after sitting on them for a while I decide against. I might have a hard time just getting a manager to talk to me.

@patgalca I do this too. Come up with something wonderful then decide it might not be such a good idea after all.

@JudyEv I might still make a few calls. Just a brief chat on the phone.

Maybe you can vlog about your struggles with your disability and post your vlogs on you tube. It's a form of documentation and at the same time earn money from you tube. This is just a crazy suggestion ... but if you want to give it a try ... you can do it

You think I should film the interviews with managers? LOL! They wouldn't agree to that. Besides, I may only have to do it over the phone. But... I may have changed my mind.
