Survival Food: 'Lugaw'

In my country, most Filipinos love to eat 'lugaw' or rice porridge, especially during rainy days. In some countries, it is known as rice gruel or congee. It is not that difficult to prepare it. I shared this kind of food because it can be a survival food. The ingredients vary from one person to another. If things can get worse, I can go with this food with some meat or boiled eggs in it. Is there any survival food in mind if this pandemic worsens? Image Credit: sa.kapamilya.com

No, it's not essential. I've never eaten it and I'm still alive.

We do have instant noodles and some cans, too. They are good for extra food in the house.

I wonder why you included lugaw in your topic lol it is all of a sudden popular in our country because of that lady who keeps on insisting that lugaw is not essential right?

@Shavkat you got that right. I think her issues are quite mistaken. Although her being vigilant is commendable but shes trying to point out something which is quite erronoius if you ask me :)

I did not include the issue that you had mentioned. For the reason that it is nonsense claimed by her.

@setsuna26 I do think that all of us are free to say things from within. Personally, it should be with sense and valid reasons.

Well, I can also eat that. But I hope that things won't come to a point that we all need to eat porridge because of pandemic. I hope people will follow the rules seriously so as to avoid the worst from happening.

I am hoping that it will not happen, too. If we all cooperate, then we can stop this pandemic.

Pasta, I can cook spaghetti, maccheroni, noodles, I can prepare a tomato sauce with the tomatoes I grow in my garden. I have stored 10 Kg of pasta in our pantry, I also have flour, I can make bread using flour.

Why not try to eat rice. I cannot blame you since Asian people's staple food is rice. It is totally different at your place.

@Shavkat When I was little one of my brothers told me mom made rice from boiling maggots. I can eat rice as long as nothing reminds me of that memory. I don't eat it often, though.

@Shavkat Yeah, my brother got into a lot of trouble over telling me that. But he got into more trouble after telling me that mom made chocolate cake from pig's blood. My dad and mom were butchering a pig in our back yard. I saw mom catching the blood in a big pan and ask my brother why she was doing that. He told me to use in chocolate cake. When I wouldn't eat the cake mom made for dessert that night she asked who told me something about chocolate cake.... When my brother finally told her what he said she told him he couldn't have chocolate cake anymore until I ate it, too. He didn't get more chocolate cake until he moved away from home.

I love rice porridge. Just like you, I can survive with it alone. However, my family doesn't share the same taste as I am. Therefore I can't make it often.

I don't see a country existing if the officals allow things to decline to the point their people are dying of starvation. Well, maybe North Karia, but well.... only a small portion of their population is in dire streights. So.... yeah.

I read the news about it. It boiled down when a person violated the curfew for buying it. I will recheck the real story of this.

It is a good option. At least, we do not need to worry about fresh ingredients being rotten if not being cooked.

I like rice but I don't use it in porridge. I have some porridge oats and I have them at weekends.
