I surf a lot on the net and I see a lot of people harassing and cursing on the net, and I am very worried about my child not being harmed, do you have any recommendations on how I can allow him both freedom on the internet but also keep him from everything that happens there?

It is an old issue that needs to be solved. Welcome to myLot...

I see it as a fluid kind of issue. Not something that can be "solved."

Maybe the member @TheHorse has a good piece of advice for you. He is a child psychologist.

I think you should try to get him into some physical activities that interest him more.

@Shalom12 When I was young, my aunt used to play word building, topic changing, and memory games with me. For word building, she would place the dictionary near the gas stove, so whenever we were asked to watch the milk being boiled, we found it interesting enough because we were multi tasking, learning new words. Topic changing was extension of word building, kinda if one said green, another person could say NEW, OR leaf, or grass, or envy or greenland. It was left open for the opposite party to challenge if they did not understand the link to the word green since N is not the letter with which leaf, grass, envy or greenland start. It then earned the person some points if they could explain. The link. So instead of grass we would say cow. The longer the chain, more the points. Failure to link up ..back to zero. In so far as memory games went, aunt would send us out .. place some things on bed...we got a minute to note them in our minds, and we had to go out of room, write them all. They were all fun.

How old is your child? In general, I would allow him or her only to use websites that are appropriate for kids. Hopefully there is not a lot of cursing on interactive Minecraft. Or whatever. No Grand Theft Auto, please.

The younger they get, the more rigid they are becoming with their views, and are not open to any suggestions and possibilities from others, younger or older.

It's an idea but I thought maybe there's also an option not to restrict it as if there might be some app that blocks such things and then I can let it surf freely

My strongest advice is to use your parenting powers to give him the power to have self worth, confidence in himself, and grow a thick skin. Too many parents do not realize the harm they are doing to their kids by coddling them, pampering them, and trying to protect them. I honestly and truly believe we do not have a bullying problem in this world. We have a parenting problem in this world. Back in the day you'd take your kid and tell him to suck up his tears and be a man. Nowadays parents simply patronize and coddle. These kids will never be able to function in society that way. It's a tough world out there. Either grow a pair and do the kicking or be prepared to be kicked. It is harsh, I realize. But it is also reality. We are way too soft on kids. We need to prepare them to fly in the face of adversity. Not run from it.

You can't keep him from seeing the horrors of the internet without keeping him away from the internet. Though you can block sites using keywords.

Welcome to myLot! You can block certain sites and limit his activity. I’d would supervise his activity based on his age.

There are a lot of strange people who use the internet. Maybe it is best for you to check the sites that your son uses. You do not say how old he is.
