Peking duck for dinner

I went to my local Russian store yesterday to get some milk as we were out. I was also thinking about getting some pastries or baked goodies for tea. While looking for them, I spotted some Peking duck in the hot foods section. It wasn't a whole duck. But a piece of it. It looked so good that I could not say no. As hot food is $6.99/pound it came out to $8.xx. It doesn't seem that bad of a price for a piece of duck. Or is it? At any rate, glad I bought it, even though that wasn't part of the plan. It was delicious. I paired it with some fried leek and an avocado tomato salad. And for dessert we had tea with farmer cheese danish-type pastries that I got at the store along with some goat cheese. Made for a great dinner.

@Laurakemunto You don't have to eat that part then. The duck legs, wings, thighs, etc. are really good. My favorite is the butt though.

We did. Just wish the dinner wasn't so late. We were eating closer to 11 pm as hubby came home from work some time after 10 pm.

@kobesbuddy That is smart. With hubby's work schedule that is never possible for us, except maybe on his day off.

Honestly, while I have of course heard of it, I don't know if I have ever actually had Peking duck. I know I have eaten goose and it seems a bit greasy to me. One of these days I need to get some. I would probably just order it from a Chinese restaurant though.

Peking duck is a dish from Beijing. Have you had duck in general, prepared any which way?

@porwest I went to Vegas some years ago for hubby's birthday. His cousin made us a reservation at a restaurant at Bellagio and paid for the meal. You dine there and you can look out at the Bellagio fountains as they dance. We ordered peking duck there. I think they brought us a whole duck. It was really good.

@lovebuglena I have had it, but it was a very long time ago. Can't remember where though. I know I did not cook it.

Thanks. My original plan was to do mini gnocchi with melted Italian shredded cheeses and some fried leeks.

@CarolDM That was gonna be the side for the duck but as dinner was very late I decided just to do the leek by itself.

It has been so long, since I've had Peking duck. It sounds so good. We haven't a place close to us that sells it. Your dinner sounds wonderful.

@lovebuglena We do have a Chinese near us, I will call one day just to see how much it would cost.

I am lucky that our Russian store sells that. If I wanted to get a whole Peking duck I'd have to go to a Chinese restaurant and one not near me.

Yeah, it was a really good duck. Much better than one I ate at the in-laws' house recently. And that one was homemade.

Sometimes it can be too fatty. This one wasn't.
