Question: 'Why is it important to always tell the truth?'

Most of us want to tell the truth to people close to our lives. It is a way of building or rebuilding a good relationship with them. There are some circumstances that we need to tell white lies not to hurt their feelings. If we do this, then we are not being truthful. The worst part is they will feel bad if knowing the ugly truth from others. Is white lie fine to protect or not to hurt people? Image Credit: lh3.googleusercontent.com

Nope, there's a way to break it to them gently. Or say it in a certain way

I agree. It is also nice to say the truth, either ugly or not gradually.

Diplomacy means using white lies when the need arises. (Some of my relatives are not too keen with my honesty. I am famous for calling a spade "a spade" .)

I am a brutally honest person with my evil relatives. They cannot blame me because they are the ones who made me this way.

It is ideal to do such a thing. However, not all people can do it.

Boy that is a hard question - the easy answer is always tell the truth. but if you hurt someone, that is bad. i guess the answer is it really depends on the white lie.

I agree it is not an easy question. Those who are in the medical field, need to be empathic and not give false hopes.

@DocAndersen At some point, I personally do not want to talk about serious cases before. I asked my colleagues to do it for me.

@Shavkat but the truth has to be softened sometimes in the medical world

It is acceptable on some cases, where we need to protect something. But most of the time, it's better to tell the truth.

As much as possible, we need to say the real truth. Even if we kept in silent, the truth will always come out.

Just tell the truth. We don't want our conscience hunt us. The truth will set us free.

I do agree with you. At some point, some people cannot tell their loved ones that they are dying. It happens in the hospital setting.

Would you like God to lie to you, or to cover up the truth, with a white lie? Love and life are not easy when you live it, in distancing yourself from truth. Life becomes a path of boulders of non-truth blocking your way. We should shovel aside all untruth, and walk the smoother path of truth, laced with the goldenness of love, shining forth from it too. People who see the glint of gold coming from you talking truth to them will never be hurt from it, but will see the real value in you, and in what you have said. Truth is priceless; never diminish its true value with a white lie.

You had given detailed things about being true. Sometimes we just need to be open-minded and don't need to block the real truth. I do think that some people are in denial, but they need to know the ugly truth of life.

@Shavkat Yes. I feel that it's always better to tell the truth about anything, if we can. This business with the current COVID virus has been made a lot worse by all of the untruths floating around about it too.
