For some Filipinos always think that it is best to have 'pancit' or rice noodles as celebratory food, especially on birthdays. They believed that it can make the celebrant's life live longer. It is because of the long string noodles that explain this belief. Basically, it is a food that Chinese people introduced to our country a long time before. What celebratory food do you prepare on special occasions in your family? Image Credit: whats4eats.com

Pancit, spaghetti, salad, lechon. I think those are the kind of foods that we do not usually missed in any occasions.

We can also have other foods. Pancit is always on the table. It will be a family tradition that will be passed on to the next generation.

Italians do not have a celebration food, every family prepare the food that the family, or the one celebrated, prefers.

Nice to hear that. The old folks are the ones who keep on passing the family traditions about celebratory foods.

@LadyDuck I wish I can have some traditional Filipino foods for my birthday this year. However, it is hard to cook them.

@Shavkat My grandparents lived with us, there were no special foods for celebrations. Some more expensive food were only served on special occasions.

These foods you mentioned are really special for a birthday celebrant. I like red eggs with the local dishes in my country. I can add some shredded red tomatoes.

We have our traditional meal made from cassava taken with stew either beef, chicken or fish. So delicious! And I never knew about that belief thanks for the information

Is it like Chinese having longevity noodles during birthday or any other celebration? Supposedly, it's like wishing the person to have a long life as well.

That looks delicious! I hope it tastes as good as it looks! Special occasions? It depends on what the special occasion is. If it's a birthday, we cook that person's favorite foods and end with a cake for dessert. If it's a holiday, they all have their own special foods.

It is a good meal for everyone. I am sure that this celebrant will be so happy to have his or her favorite foods on the table. Do you still blow candles on your natal's day?

It depends on what we are craving for. I always ask the celebrant what food he would like to have.

We also do ask the celebrants. However, pancit needs to be with the foods prepared.

@thelme55 It is nice that you can find rice noodles there to make one. I bet it is a bit pricey, isn't it?

I am not good at cooking. It is a relatable situation for me. My mom is good at making it. However, it needs more time and energy so it is best to buy it in a restaurant instead.

@Shavkat I have this problem, if I cook anything, then I often lose the appetite for that dish. (Knowing exactly what is in it, makes me lose interest I guess.)

@Shavkat No, it's just an ordinary chicken egg, just boiled with food coloring. Red as a symbol of happiness.
